With worry lines etched on her face, the estranged wife of Earl Spencer is clearly showing the strain of her marriage breakdown.

Caroline Spencer appeared gaunt and unhappy as she cycled to the shops.

It is less than six months since her husband ended their five-year marriage, when their second child, Lara, was only four months old, and friends say they are concerned about how the divorce proceedings are affecting her.

The 39-year-old former nursery-school teacher has moved out of the Althorp estate in Northamptonshire and into a modest flat in West London. The couple also have a son, Ned, three.

Caroline is reported to have been left 'heartbroken' by the split, which came after the couple were said to have had frequent rows. Her appearance is a world away from the glamour and joy that was obvious after Spencer married her in 2001.

They met while students at Oxford University and their relationship was rekindled after she parted from her first husband, PR man Matthew Freud.

Spencer, brother of the late Princess Diana, had split from his first wife, Victoria, in 1997. Her lawyers had described him as a womaniser and it was claimed he had 'ten or 12 lovers' while she was in a clinic for drink problems.

The strain on Caroline is believed to be partly because of Spencer's new relationship with US television presenter Coleen Sullivan, 33, whom he met when she interviewed him. They appeared together publicly for the first time at a charity event in New Zealand last month.

Isn't it more than that? I would have sworn he had around six kids with the first wife. He really is an odious little man. I didn't like him from when he decided to pick on the Royal Family at Diana's funeral when they couldn't say anything back like the coward that he was. When he was getting divorced his wife had his former mistress' testifying against him.

He was married to nerotic anorexic Victoria & they had 4 kids, then he got divorced, moved to South Africa, and apparently (moved back) got married again & had 2 more.... (never heard this last bit.....)*


Yes, he was vitrious in his condemnation of the Royal Family; However, in the beginning (of the relationship b/w Charles & Di) when they threw her to the wolves, they created their very own frankenstien & then didn't like it when she "learnt to play the game" with the media.

Yeah. This chick is from the local news channel in Dayton, OH. A few weeks ago the papers ran a COVER story about this affair. It was kind of creepy how something like this made such headlines versus real news.
