Britney Spear's post-partum struggle
TMZ has learned Britney Spears' troubles may have little to do with substance abuse. Sources say doctors at her rehab facility think the underlying reason for her trouble may be post-partum depression.
Sources tell TMZ that Britney's doctors have two operating theories -- either that she suffers from post-partum depression or bipolar disorder. The doctors strongly believe post-partum is the problem.
As for substance abuse, as one source says, "No doubt about it - she likes to drink." But doctors believe the drinking is a way Spears has coped with a bigger problem.
We're told Britney, who is sticking it out at the Promises rehab facility in Malibu, is currently reading Brooke Shields' book, "Down Came the Rain," in which Shields reveals her battle with post-partum depression.
We're told doctors believe Spears' problem is complicated by an intense feeling on her part that she has lost control of her life.

Post - Partum is a bitch and so different for everyone. My friend ran naked through the streets at her worst. I took it to my basement and pounded it out on the bag with a lot of crying.

I would buy PPD as the reason if she had been a well balanced person prior to this.

She only had the last baby 5 months ago so it could be PPD.
Seems like she started having a lot of these problems after he was born.

Well, duh! That's one of the things about having a baby, you are giving up control and you're not giving it to someone who is rational. No, you're giving it to a selfish little thing that has no ability to communicate its' needs without driving you insane. The only problem with this is that someone don't have an issue with it and others, myself included, find themselves in a heap wondering what the hell is wrong with them!
If I was able to rationalize driving myself off the road into a ditch because I was sure that I would be left alone in a hospital, or throwing things, or feeling completely nuts I can definitely get someone going after the ex-husband or the people following her because she shaved her head.
I don't think that's the entire problem, I do believe that she has a substance issue but I think she's using that to poorly medicate a more serious condition.

I think it's PPD exacerbated by other issues (divorce and substance abuse). She was probably no stranger to drugs prior to having kids but she may have gotten more into them as a way of coping with PPD.

Then I wonder why (oh, why) did she wait until she got into Promises to get this PPD book? She's not "self-medicating", she fucking getting high. She hasn't given two fucks about those kids since the doctor pulled them (notice I didn't say "squirted") from her stomach. If this nincompoop had thought it was PPD, she would have seen a doctor instead of running out and rolling on X.

I despise the term self -medicating.These phrases get so overused in pop culture they lose their meaning and PPD is headed the same way. Yes, it's real, but it seems like any woman who has give birth is almost expected to lose her shit. Also, fucked up drug addicts with personality issues can also go on to become mothers, but if one has given birth that automatically becomes the reason for every horrible thing they do.
