OH NO THEY DIDN'T! the celebrities are disposable. the content is priceless
First it was Oprah Winfrey. Then it was Halle Berry. Now, it's Jennifer Hudson.
My gal Jennifer has landed herself a cover of Vogue. Winfrey and Berry are the only other African-American actresses to grace the cover of the magazine.
Hudson will appear on the cover of the mag's annual Power Issue. It's one of the biggest issues of the year because it includes a spring fashion preview. "March is to spring what the September issue is to fall," a magazine insider says.
Hudson was shot for the magazine by über-celeb shutterbug Annie Leibovitz at Harlem's famed Apollo Theater. In addition to the cover (first reported by WWD), I'm told there are three more portrait pics of her inside the magazine to go along with her seven-page story. Vogue will probably begin releasing images of the Hudson spread sometime next week, a source reports.
Unfortunately, most magazine editors are still too scared to put African-American celebrities on their covers because they fear they won't sell. Brava to Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour!
Next up for Ms. Hudson is Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. No doubt, she'll perform a song or two. But as Mr. Davis does every year, expected guests and the night's performers are kept hush-hush so as not to ruin any surprises.
For now, you can bid on a piece of Hudson at the Clothes Off Her Back online auction. Turns out that a Mychael Knight-designed Starbucks T-shirt that Hudson autographed at the Golden Globes is one of the auction's most popular items. Bidding for the cotton tee has already exceeded $300.

Is this just the third african american actress to be on the cover..or third African american woman period? Just curious and I do not follow these type of magazines. If it is the latter I think that is appalling.

I think just actresses because I remember Marion Jones made the cover after the Olympics. Mad props there, she's an athlete- not exactly a svelte fashion friendly figure.

i don't priase Anna Wintour at all. She's doing this because she knows it will sell. she could care less about advancing African American women. she has a magazine to sell.

Just actresses becuse Beverly Johnson was the first black ever on the cover of Vogue, and I'm pretty sure a couple other black models have made it since then.

OMG!.....i remember on a similar thread saying this would be HUGE....and it is. WTF has happend to Anna Wintour....whatever it is i like it. I wonder if this is for real and she actually will be on the cover. OMG! this is HUGE.
I have to say i feel bad for Bday....shes been in the business for so long, and as much as she annoys me she works really hard, and has had several moments in her career where being on the cover of Vogue would only be appropriate. And as much as i LOVE Jhud it pains me to say that shes even worse spoken than Beyonce (i didnt think it possible either). oh well.....i guess the're not fond of her over there.
I dont remember Halle being on the cover.

I'm happy this is probably pissing off Beyonce and everything, but I'm getting just a little bit sick of J.Hudson being all over the place.

this is gonna sound strange.. but there is something about Jennifer Hudson that pisses me off and i can't even think of a valid reason as to why she annoys me.

i agree wih all the posters. beyonce is annoying but why shouldn't she be on vogue? everyone loves an underdog i guess and good for this girl but i hear clock ticking loudly on her 15 minutes. honestly, she doesn't do it for me, but that drag queen kinda stuff isn't my cuppa. i am surprised she got vogue.halle berry was on vogue but never oprah winfrey.

Wait I've seen Halle on Oprah a couple times at least. I agree with you about the 15 minutes for Jennifer. I hope H-town doesn't chew her up and spit her out.
