Rock stars to kick drugs on camera for Brit TV series
By Stephanie Earp
Pete Doherty and other UK users approached for reality series that will show their detox to the world
Endemol is at it again, courting controversy with a new reality show. The producers behind Big Brother and Deal or No Deal are planning a reality series that will put famous drug addicts into a Big Brother-style house and let the cameras roll.
Endemol are touting the show as a serious social experiment, trying to claim some of the credibilty a show like Intervention has managed to build up, but an anonymous insider said "Endemol are using drug problems as entertainment and treating addiction like a joke."
It seems unlikely the show would make it across the pond, although not for the reasons you'd hope. Pete Doherty, Donny Tourette and other (mostly music) stars who've been approached for the series aren't well-known here. Doherty is the most familiar to American audiences, for his relationship with Kate Moss and his drug problems. But in the UK, the award-winning poet and songwriter is - or was - considered a national treasure, and was famous for his work, not his heroin habit. Until recently, anyway.
Endemol may be way off-base thinking anyone wants to watch the DTs - even famous DTs. If we did, Courtney Love would still have a career.

I can't even glance at photos of this hideous creature. No way could I stomach having to watch him for an hour on tv. I want to throw up just thinking about it.

I'm so glad I don't live in Britain and don't have to be subjected to this loser. I encourage all UK viewers to boycott Doherty's sideshow--um, I mean TV program.

Are they going to show him smoking crack and shooting up on camera? I think that's illegal.

He is gross when he is sober just standing there, and to watch him go through detox, puking, shaking, and pissing himself would be more than I could take .

They did this on channel 4 with normal people - it was pretty disturbing but interesting AND it certainly put me off drugs. It was really bad.
Pete Doherty is an attention seeking prick though. I don't want to see any show with his potato face on it.
Channel 4 is one of the main 5 channels here in Britain and make some excellent programming and then there is this.... http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcas...wank-week.html

Now that's what you call great TV. I would like to see this show, even though most of what he'll be doing we;ve already seen.

Just when I thought reality TV couldn't get any more tasteless, they reach for the lowest low.

This guy needs to be completely ignored, and then hopefully he'll go away.
