All-time low: Jay Z sells jackets made from dog fur
Quote:
Another music-to-fashion crossover artist - this time Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, who famously rapped that he had "99 problems" - was revealed to be selling fur from a type of dog, but the fur was described as "faux."
The [Humane Society] purchased a "faux fur" jacket from Jay-Z's Rocawear website, and sent it for lab testing to find out exactly what animal the fur really belonged to. The test showed that the fur was taken from raccoon dogs - a type of dog raised for fur in China.
Just weeks ago, hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs and Macy's department store pulled a Sean John brand jacket that was being advertised as faux fur, after tests commissioned by The [Humane Society] revealed the fur was actually from raccoon dogs. Diddy announced that this particular coat would be trimmed only with faux fur in the future.
Jay-Z's "faux fur" - advertised coat had no fur labeling on the jacket, so consumers have no way to know that what they think is faux is actually from raccoon dogs, who may have been skinned alive.
Below is a photo of the jacket along with a picture of a racoon dog.

Freaking rank asshole. I'd like to personally skin him alive and put it on jackets.

Animals are often skinned alive in China, which has zero regulations around this kind of thing. Isn't Jay-Z rich enough already?
Still, I'd rather have dog fur being used than that of endangered species.

Anything to make a buck!! Piece of crap. He'll plead ignorance and pull the line, just like Puff Daddy or P. Diddy did. Perhaps he should donate the money that he made off of the fur coats to the Humane Society or another reputable animal protection agency. Not likely that will happen.

Sometimes they tie a rope around their neck, bash them over the head, throw them in a vat of boiling water to soften the skin before taking them out and flaying them for the fur. If the animal is lucky, it dies getting its skull crushed but I've seen footage of animals that survived every stage of the process.

^^ I think I read a while back that if they're skinned alive, it's a cleaner fur that you get back. For instance, if it was shot, then there's a bullet hole, if it's clubbed then you'll see trauma on the fur that they could have used, etc...

They can just stick an electrode up its butt and electrocute it, but i guess that would be more expensive..

That's why tigers are often poisoned or strangled. It's terrible what is done to animals in the name of fashion or so-called folk medicine.

God! That's horrible!!! Makes me so sad to hear stuff like this. I just found this on Wikipedia which says pretty much what you said. How can people do stuff like that????? It makes me so angry

An investigation [5]by three animal protection groups into the Chinese fur trade in 2004 and part of 2005 asserts that there are an estimated 1.5 million raccoon dogs being raised for fur in China. The report claims that killing methods include first hitting the animals on the head with a stick or slamming the animal into the ground to stun them, but that "a significant number of animals remain fully conscious during the skinning process and started to writhe and move around." Video taken during the investigation [6] shows a raccoon dog apparently conscious during and after the skinning process. A 2005 follow-up article by the Beijing News[7] reports: "On this particular day around half the raccoon dogs and foxes were skinned alive like this."

Between November and December, foxes are sold, slaughtered, skinned and their fur is processed. Animals are often slaughtered adjacent to wholesale markets, where farmers bring their animals for trade and large companies come to buy stocks. To get there, animals are often transported over large distances and under horrendous conditions before being slaughtered. They are stunned with repeated blows to the head or swung against the ground. Skinning begins with a knife at the rear of the belly whilst the animal is hung up-side-down by its hind legs from a hook. A significant number of animals remain fully conscious during this process. Supremely helpless, they struggle and try to fight back to the very end. Even after their skin has been stripped off breathing, heart beat, directional body and eyelid movements were evident for 5 to 10 minutes.

Whatever, I don't see too many people getting upset over rats, chickens, cows, fish, pigs, etc. Of course, all of you jumping on Jay-Z don't eat meat or wear leather
