Burt Bacharach’s Daughter Committed Suicide

Burt Bacharach and Angie Dickinson’s daughter committed suicide. Nikki suffered from Asperger’s Disorder, a form of autism. What a terrible tragedy. Burt has worked with The Beatles, The Carpenters, Aretha Franklin, B.J. Thomas, Tom Jones, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Dusty Springfield, The Drifters, Jack Jones, Luther Vandross, and Dionne Warwick (to name a few).

Wow, yeah they were married from '65 to 80' but separated in 1978. That is very sad. I loved this couple way back when.

This is really sad. I love that couple too, they really were huge celebrities in the 1960's and 70's and each hugely talented. Asperger's is a high-functioning form of autism, I think I saw a lot of well-known names listed on wikipedia once who have it, among them Spielberg.

OMG, that is too sad. I wonder how Angie's going to take it. Losing one's only child. The reason why I wonder more about Angie than Burt is not because I think it won't affect him tremendously, but because I saw her on Larry King Live once speaking about her sister's Alzheimers and she already was so devastated by something like that happening to a person who'd lived a whole and full life. Imagine losing a young person, your child, whose life was already not the easiest considering her condition.

I remember this girl Nikki. She was a few years older than me and I remember her in the magazines waaaay back in the days when she was a kid. She was one of the famous celebrity kids of the day like Chastity Bono and Lisa Marie Presley. Every now and then you'd see her in the tabloids.
I had no idea she had that disease. I guess that's why you didn't hear about her anymore as an adult.

Very sad. One of my friends has a son with this disorder, it is a real challenge.
I remember back in the 70s when we were in a club in Michigan and he had his "people" tell my girlfriend he was interested in getting together with her. I didn't realize he was still married at the time. My friend wasn't interested cause he was too old.

Oh, how sad! I have a son with autism, and then my ex-boyfriend and my father-in-law both committed suicide, so this hits kind-of close to home for me.

OT: Sometimes I wonder if I could deal with autism. It's a matter of perception, and realizing that they don't have the ability to relate to life and people the way others do. I have a step-nephew who is autistic. He's doing all right, but he still hasn't learned how his actions affect other people. That is one of my core issues from my childhood, so I have a hard time with that. I get really upset when people close to me can't see how their actions affect other people (like me). I always think it's because they refuse to see it, rather than they can't see it. Still, as a mother I think I could learn to deal with the subtleties of autism if I had to. My hat is off to you. I know it's not easy.

There are very many levels, or types if you will, of autism and related conditions. Some include physical limitations as well. Whatever the case is, it's often a "new" experience to the families of the afflicted person. I have a second cousin who is still not diagnosed officially with an autism-related condition (aside from epilepsy) and she will be 9 in May.....
