NEW YORK - Donald Trump got some support Thursday in his war of words with Rosie O'Donnell — from his 25-year-old daughter, Ivanka.

Ivanka, a vice president of real estate development at the Trump Organization, appeared on NBC's "Today" show with her father to promote "The Apprentice," which begins its new season Sunday. She will be joining Trump in the boardroom.

"Today" co-host Meredith Vieira's first questions were about Trump's feud with O'Donnell, the outspoken moderator of "The View." The 44-year-old comedian was hired by series creator Barbara Walters after Vieira left the ABC show last year to join "Today."

Ivanka said O'Donnell had "instigated" the exchange of verbal hostilities and had been "bullying people for a long time."

"I think it was unfair, it was uncalled for and, quite frankly, there was no reason for it," she said of O'Donnell's recent remarks, which include saying The Donald has been "bankrupt so many times."

"As my father said, she, too, has had a lot of second chances," Ivanka said. "You know, there's nothing surprising about the fact that my dad's gonna come back with a vengeance anytime anyone says anything negative against him."

Trump, a self-professed "fighter," became defensive when Vieira said his comments about O'Donnell — he's called her a "slob" among other insults — were so, well, mean.

"I have no choice because every time I go in an interview, people ask me about Rosie," he said. "So I respond by saying she's not very intelligent, which she's not, she's had many failures in her life, which she has — and I respond."

He also complained that O'Donnell has made fun of his hair, to which Vieira remarked that he had called O'Donnell a "fat pig."

"I don't know, which is worse? I think I'd rather probably be fat," Trump said.

O'Donnell is on vacation from "The View" this week. A spokesman for the daytime talk show said Thursday that O'Donnell wasn't available for comment.

Walters tried to smooth things over Wednesday on "The View," reading a statement that said Trump "has never filed for personal bankruptcy."

Trump told the AP on Wednesday he appreciated that Walters "did a retraction" — and claimed the show's "ratings are up because of people like me."

The Rosie-Donald feud began last month after Trump announced that Miss USA Tara Conner would keep her title, which had been in jeopardy because of underage drinking. Trump is the owner of the Miss Universe Organization, which includes Miss USA and Miss Teen USA.

O'Donnell said his news conference had annoyed her "on a multitude of levels" and that the twice-divorced real estate mogul had no right to be "the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America."

In an interview with Trump to air Friday night, CBS "Late Show" host David Letterman says of O'Donnell, "I like her. I think she's funny and smart. ... I think she's playing around here because I think she's too smart, too smart to actually believe the things she's saying about various people. So I think she knows what she's up to."

"Well, that's possible. That is possible," Trump replies.

As for Ivanka, she's no looker either and like Paris, she only gets second glances because of her name & money!

I just watched a portion of that on Entertainment Tonight. He was very rude and defensive. Personally I think they are both ugly and disgusting, perfect match. On top of that, it also mentioned that he and Miss USA are seriously considering posing for Playboy.

Oh but it's okay if she poses for Playboy because she'll make sure the kibbles and bits are covered. Which makes it completley fine because posing in Playboy with nipple hats is what all the role models are doing today.

Drug use? Please do tell!

I saw an interview a while back and Donald said his kids are all good kids. None of them smoke or drink and neither does he.

I was watching extra last night, and I cant believe how Donald went on the Today show and was going at it again about Rosie. Viera face was appauled by his rude comments. I didn't realize how prude he was.

We should all keep in mind that Meredith used to be on that show.... maybe that doesn't influence her, maybe it does. Please don't think that I defend DT because I don't. He's right about one thing: his combover is way worse than Rosie being fat....

I heard that today and was blown away. What's he thinking to be even pondering this? He's a hypocrit and an idot.

No wonder these pageants are a thing of the past so far as ratings go. Nobody takes them seriously.

Over the years the NY tabloids hinted about her drug use and her extensive PS. There was also a BI a few months ago that seemed to be about her. It think it was about an heiress that would do blow in the bathroom of a club. The way it was worded it could be no one but her.

ITA. He had a shit fit over Katie Rees pictures but I don't see how being in Playboy is much different than that.

The Donald is a rich loud mouthed thug. I saw this interview the other morning and actually thought he was gonna totally lose it. What an idiot he is. His daughter was trying to be the sane person there IMO.
He kept saying he has the number one show on television, I laughed, then he and Meredith were debating the ratings of his stupid show...it was a great interview, I must say I totally enjoyed every second of it.
