Yesterday we spoke with Paris Hilton’s waxer on the recent trend of Hollywood actresses going bald. Today we take a more intellectual approach (no, really). We called renowned feminist author and culture critic Camille Paglia and asked why starlets like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan are flashing their goodies for the camera. And what does it all mean? As usual, Paglia didn't mince words.
On how it’s affecting feminism:
“These girls are lowering themselves to the level of backstreet floozies. It angers me because I fought a bitter fight to get feminism back on track and be pro-sex at the same time. This is degrading the entire pro-sex wing of feminism.”
On how it’s affecting their reputation:
“I am completely appalled by what these young women are doing because I think that they are cheapening their own image and obliterating all sexual mystery and glamour, which are the heart of the star system.”
On how Hollywood’s changed:
“These are women who are clearly out of control because the old studio era is over. The studio system...guided and shaped the careers of the young women who it signed up. It maximized their sexual allure by dealing it out in small doses and making sure you don’t have -- what has become here -- a situation of anarchy.”
On Madonna:
“Madonna was able to flash her breasts and play peek-a-boo because she is an authentic, creative artist who churns out song after song, project after project… but Britney seems like she’s lost and the career track is obliterated.”
On “The Kiss”:
“A great promise was contained in the moment when Madonna kissed Britney at the MTV Awards. She in a sense was saying,”I’m passing the torch to you.” It was a fabulous moment. Britney looked toned, in control of her career and it was up to her to take the next step. Literally from that kiss, from that moment onward, Britney has spiraled out of control. It’s like Madonna gave her the kiss of death! Britney is throwing it away!”
On Paris Hilton:
“Paris Hilton I feel a little bit more benign towards because she doesn’t really have a vocation. She is basically a celebutante. She changed fame by mining high-fashion poses learned from drag queens.”
On Lindsay Lohan:
“Lindsay is alienating too many serious actors and when you are not performing and causing problems on a shoot, that’s not good. I think Lindsay Lohan is more in the downward spiral for sure.”

I can;t wait to hear what you all have to say about this one

Britney Spears has gotten a lot of flack for flashing her bare nether regions for the cameras last week, but she’s not the only commando queen in Hollywood. Paris Hilton, 25, was flaunting her very comprehensive bikini wax back in August 2002. As Amy Poehler asked recently on SNL, ladies, what’s with all the deforestation going on down there? Us talked to Paris’ waxer -- Cindy Barshop, owner of NYC's Completely Bare Salon -- to try to get to the bottom of this overexposed trend.
Us: So what is the hot trend in bikini waxing now?
CB: The Brazilian bikini wax was hot about 5 years ago, but for the past 3 years, the completely bare has been the big celeb trend in bikini waxes.
Us: What’s the difference between a Brazilian wax and a completely bare?
CB: Completely bare takes everything off. The Brazilian usually leaves a square and oblong shaped patch of hair.
Us: So I know you’ve heard about Britney flashing her naked hair-free private parts to the photographers. Why do you think people are moving towards a completely bare wax?
CB: I feel that if you do a completely bare wax, you feel cleaner, more comfortable and more groomed…it seems a little sexier.
Us: So why do you think celebrities are skipping the underwear and going commando?
CB: I think that with the completely bare waxing, they just feel comfortable enough with their bodies that they can skip the underwear. And oops if they do happen to flash someone, it’s not as embarrassing because the area is groomed.

I read this on the US weekly site. I mostly agree, but I'm disappointed that she'd take such a soft line on Banned. She must not really know about the other delightful details that make her such a horrid person.
Show her that video of Banned cackling with glee at Brandon Davis calling Lohan a Firecrotch and then see what Camille Paglia has to say.
Also, what's with the studio system thing? I don't think that sticks, that was over in the 50's-60's and it's only been recently that these skanks have been behaving so shamelessly, flashing beavers and such. I think it's the internet and the intense focus and attention it can bring. These girls are hooked on it.

Like I said many times, they are attention wh0res and the media gives them the leeway to become even more over-the-top, they get more hooked in this celeb game...it's a vicious circle.
Best thing for this crazy lost people will be if everyone just ignored them.
Then the reality would kick in.

And that's bollocks. The scandals were just hidden better, and the paparazzi weren't even in existence to catch them out! It irks me when people assume things were better 'back then' (whatever that means) when they weren't!
She's talking about the studios that did this to Judy Garland-
Quote:
JUDY GARLAND: 1922-1969
Her contract stipulated that her physical appearance not change, so Garland was prescribed amphetamines to "control" her weight and barbiturates to sleep. Addicted to the drugs, which caused hallucinations and suicidal tendencies, her behavior became erratic and disruptive. In 1949, she was electroshocked. Her drug-induced health problems worsened, her liver and spleen massively swollen. In 1969, Garland died of a psychiatric drug overdose in a London hotel.

I think she means the old studios controlled the image better, not neccesarily that their lives were better.
And that shame existed back then, and now being a ho seems cool. Like with the GGW video explosion crap.
I agree with Pagilia's comments. I think the reason she doesn't go much into Banned is because she doesn't take her seriously and she never had any credibility to begin with.

Camille Paglia has said and written some pretty aware stuff over the years, even if she hasn't been popular with liberal Feminists.
Personally, I can't see that having your crotch hairs ripped out by their roots is sexy but to each his or her own...
