But before they could plan parenthood, DeGeneres had to fight America's strict anti-gay marriage laws to make sure her partner would be well looked after if anything should happen to her.
She explains, "If it were legal, we would be married, but it's not legal. I hate politics, but I think everyone should be treated equally.
If I die tomorrow, everything's taken away. We've taken precautions for that and she's taken care of, but, because we're not married, the taxes could take everything."

She seems so down to earth. I think it says a lot about her and their relationship that she wants to make sure her SO is taken care of if something happens to her. I hope that they are able to have a family.

I adore Ellen, she is one of my favorite celebs. Very down to earth, self depreciating and funny. Hope they make it happen!

The great thing about dating a younger woman, if they decide they want to go the natural child birth way Portia can probably have children much easier than Ellen. I wish them a happy long life together, they're wicked awesome!

I don't know much about Ellen's partner, but I think Ellen would make a wonderful parent.
