Nicole Kidman looks back on her marriage to Tom Cruise

KIDMAN'S CRUISE REGRET

Nicole Kidman wanted to stay married to Tom Cruise forever.

The "Cold Mountain" star married Tom in 1990 and the "Top Gun" star left her just before their tenth wedding anniversary, although they remained husband until 2001.

Nicole, 39, told Vogue magazine: "Honestly, I would have stayed married for the rest of my life. It's not like I regret who I was in that marriage, I don't at all. It was eleven years of my life. It wasn't 50 years, it turned out to be 11."

"You get the advice, 'Don't get married when you're 22', and you just think, 'They don't know what they're talking about!' But now I look back and think, 'Oh, there's probably some truth to that.'"

The Australian actress was pregnant when Tom left her, and she suffered a miscarriage shortly afterwards. Their marriage was dissolved for undisclosed reasons in 2001.

Nicole also spoke about meeting her current husband Keith Urban, who she married this summer.

She said: "I was very wary, and damaged. It wasn't that I'd give up hope, I was, just, asleep. But now I feel like I've woken up again. Rather than living through characters, I've learned to be myself."

Recovering alcoholic Keith checked into rehab last month after falling off the wagon while Nicole was away filming "His Dark Materials." The actress flew home to Nashville to be with her husband.

I think she is still damaged.

I am a bit confused by what she is saying. She doesn't regret who she was in that marriage..was she someone else?

People tend to change over time. I know I'm not the same person I was back in my twenties. I have no regrets about who I was or what I did back then because it shaped who I am now. I think that's all she was saying.

Seriously - Nicole Kidman has some major Issues. She and Tom were actually the perfect couple, both self-absorbed neurotic weirdos with ice water in their veins. Neither of them project an atom of warmth and normal human emotion. But we STILL don't know why that marriage suddenly imploded.

I think she always has to throw sentences like that in, because she fears Crazy Tom and his Crazy Cult. I always have the impression that she signed some kind of contract not to criticize him afterwards. They probably blackmail her with the children somehow.

The marriage ended because she was pregnant! He is shooting blanks. I know I read somewhere that his first wife said that in so many words. I know I did. And then she turned up preggers maybe a year or so later.

Nicole being pregnant would have been a telltale sign of an affair. Or maybe she was dumped cause she miscarried LRon's baby.

But, then again, the only one who knows he's sterile is him, right? (Nicole probably knew, too)-the public could assume, but honestly none of us knows for certain; you have to admit - so if she had become pregnant from another man, Tom could have passed it off as his own. After all, isn't that what he's done with Katie?

That's true. But I have a theory. Around that time, Tom still had a good reputation, meaning he hadn't jumped on any couches, he hadn't freaked out on tv, he hadn't gone on any Co$ rants, etc. He was still the Powerful Movie Star, and had everything to lose.

I think Nicole fooled around, because hey, maybe she wanted to actually have sex with a man like Tom's first wife, Mimi Rogers, wanted to do, and a pregnancy resulted. Tom didn't like it, because Nicole broke the contract & the child was not the result of a highly-controlled operation under his supervision.

Plus, the 10 year mark was coming up, which would make a major difference in how their property would be divided in a dispute. Nicole was obviously getting antsy, and therefore a security risk, so best to dump her then.

About Suri, sometimes I think she's an in vitro baby, and sometimes I think she's Chris what's-his-name's baby.

You're so right Lobelia. I think he's repulsed by the whole act with a women and she had an affair and as a result pregnancy.

I think you're spot on. Suri is in vitro, women need sex, Tom won't give it to them.
