11/3/05: STEFANI: 'I DIDN'T COPY MADONNA'

GWEN STEFANI has laughed off MADONNA's claims she copied her style from the MATERIAL GIRL - insisting everyone from her generation was influenced by the pop superstar.

Madonna took a cheeky swipe at the former NO DOUBT singer at last weekend (30OCT05), saying, "She ripped me off. We work with a lot of the same people. She married a Brit, she's got long hair and she likes fashion."

But Stefani insists Madonna iconic status means she influenced a whole generation of girls.

She says, "Some people say that I copy her.

"But show me one girl my age who was not influenced by her."

I agree; Madonna sucks. She's just a washed up poseur extraordinaire! I can't believe anyone would take anything she says seriously in that highly affected fake British accent anyway...blech!

Hey, Gwen! I am one year younger than you and no way in hell has Madonna influenced my life in anyway, shape, or form. And while we are at it, Gwen, you are too old to be acting like you are 16. You are 35, Gwen. It is time to stop hanging around young girls. It is giving me the creeps ala Michael Jackson.

madonna made a career out of copying things and reworking them and making them mainstream hits. gwen does the same. madonna should be more gracious and at least give her kudos for being another brilliant recycler. neither have done anything original.

I agree with Gwen, I'm her age and was there when the whole "material girl" phase exploded. You couldn't escape Madonnamania - there was influence in our culture so much to the point that now some college campus' even have LECTURES devoted to Madonna - a study of her and her influence!

What I find strange is that Madonna is rippin on her own kin. I heard several years back that Gwen and Madonna are actually genetically related from way way back in their ancestries! Madonna is apparently related to Celine Dion as well in the same fashion.
