Pop superstar MADONNA has surprised fans by appearing on a US TV home shopping channel in a bid to turn around the disappointing sales of her latest children's book.

The MATERIAL GIRL's THE ENGLISH ROSES: TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE had sold just 9,000 copies by 20 November (06) - four weeks after its release on 24 October (06).

Speaking on the show, Madonna said, "I never would have thought about writing children's books if I didn't have children."

lol, i saw this last night, i thought it was stupid that she came on there to sell her books, but then someone told me all her proceeds go to charity. if that is true, then its nice of her to promote her books, but is this really true?

Frankly, I'm surprised the vestal virgin Vadge would stoop so low as to appear on tv to hock her crappy book. I figured she'd tuck it next to Shanghai Surprise and Swept Away in the big fricking failure file.

I saw I think the first book in the series at a book store recently and flipped though it. It was complete crap! IMO the only celeb that writes childrens books that are good is Jamie Lee Curtis.
