Chris Robinson files for divorce from Kate Hudson

Chris Robinson has filed for divorce from Kate Hudson in Los Angeles, three months after their separation, PEOPLE has learned.

Robinson is requesting joint legal and physical custody of their son, Ryder, 2, and is not seeking spousal support, according to court documents.

The couple separated on Aug. 14 amid rumors that Hudson was romantically involved with her You, Me and Dupree costar Owen Wilson. The actress is currently in Australia shooting Fool's Gold.

Hudson, 27, and Robinson, 39, were married on New Year's Eve in 2000, only a few months after they met. After their wedding, Kate took a year off from acting to give their marriage a solid foundation.

No Kate Hudson fan, but i am glad she's gotten away from that sickeningly-ugly, rumored-to-be-a-rude-flaming-asshole, druggy, JERK. Oh and did i mention he's hideously ugly??

I know this is mean to say, but: it's too bad he passed on his ugly genes to their son.

^ I'll never understand that. Sure, I adore certain "rock stars" but it's because they're beautiful people and they're talented as hell. He's neither. *shrug* Maybe it's just me but you gotta have something in order for me to like you; I don't get all the "omg he's a rock star therefore I like him" stuff that some people do.

I read that she was pregnant!!-but you know how rags start rumours just to sell more papers.

I never liked Chris but dunno why-he seemed to be quite content to be out of limelight.

I think Kate is a nasty one ( I hate it when celebs make babies and then divorce their hubbies--what about the poor kids???????)and Owen HAD something to do with this separation/divorce.
We'll see.

^^Their son is 2 or 3 years old by now, tho...it's not like she just had the kid and dumped him. I'm not excusing anything if she did cheat, but there was some time between the baby and the divorce. Unlike Brit-Brit (although I don't fault her, because K-Fed is trash, but that's where I wonder what she was thinking, and the poor kids).

Goose -OK..but . you know...I have a friend and her parents are divorcing after 30 years toghether..
Now, she is a 27 yr old woman..with career and fiance and all.
And she is STILL distraught to the sky-she blames herself for not paying attention to the signs, thinks she could have done some more to keep them toghether...you name it....

AND her parents' divorce won't be publicised in ALL papers and on all newscasts!!!!
AND no one will say maybe her mother cheated, or her father was after her mom money...and so on..

What I intend to underline is..A divorce is HARSH on kids, be it at 3 or 25 or 50....
And when -like in this case - there is a celeb , A-lister with famous family...there is NO WAY that Ryder (and Brit's kids-poor Sean) won't realise and BE TOLD by nasties about what is going on...

THAT is what upsets me-- kids are kids...whether celeb or ordinary... a family divorce will impact HEAVILY on ANY child's life!!!

So, I feel sorry for those kids.

I'm not disagreeing that divorce is hard at any age - I do absolutely think that is the case. However, with the divorce rate at what it is, it's inevitable that someone's parents are going to get a divorce. I always feel sorry for children in a divorce, but we also don't know what happened behind closed doors for this public couple.

No arguments from me - kids are hurt in divorces. We just can't have rose colored glasses that every couple that has a child will remain together for the rest of their lives, happily ever after.
