'60 Minutes' correspondent Ed Bradley dies
Quote:
'60 Minutes' correspondent Ed Bradley dies
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Ed Bradley, the longtime "60 Minutes" correspondent who reported on subjects ranging from jazz musicians to the Columbine school shootings, has died. He was 65.
Bradley died Thursday at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital of leukemia, according to staff members at the CBS program.
Bradley joined "60 Minutes" during the 1981-82 season after two years as White House correspondent for CBS News and three years at "CBS Reports." His reporting over the years won him a Peabody Award, 19 Emmys and a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, among many others.
CNN's John Roberts, who worked with Bradley at CBS, said the newsman was "always a person you could sit down with and he could keep you intrigued for hours at a time with the stories he could tell."
Roberts called Bradley a "first-rate" journalist.
"He clearly was a field reporter," said Howard Kurtz, the Washington Post media reporter. "He did not want to be chained to a desk." Kurtz also hosts CNN's "Reliable Sources."
"He was somebody who liked being out there on the story, whether it was in the Vietnam War or whether it was doing investigative work or bringing alive the plight of families who were dealing with illnesses or violence or other issues he covered," Kurtz added.
CNN's David Fitzpatrick, a former CBS producer who worked with Bradley, said there were tears in the halls of CBS News after word of his passing.
"He was gracious," Fitzpatrick said. "He would always have a smile."
Bradley is survived by his wife, Patricia Blanchet.

Who'd have thunk Andy Rooney AND Mike Wallace would outlive him?? Nuts.
I'm sad. I really liked him. Liked the way he interviewed, his delivery.
RIP Ed.

I know but he looked so much younger and acted like he was full of life and so intelligent too, both him and Mike Wallace (who's in his 80s but you'd never know it) were the brightest parts of that show. Cancer is just not fair I hate to say it, but its true.
-he seems so healthy too, I still can't believe that Peter Jennings is dead too...both so young

They fail to mention his long and illustrious friendship with Hunter S. Thompson, so I will. May they both be slamming down a few on the other side.

^ yeah... I wonder how long he was suffering? What are the warning signs, b/c he appeared so healthy! and I don't think his life-style would bring something like this on unlike Peter Jennings who smoked most his life and got lung cancer only later after quitting and taking it back up again...

I read another source that said he'd been battling leukemia for 2 years. He kept it real quiet though.

Sad news. I really liked him.
When I was younger I remember thinking how cool it was that he wore an earring.

yeah and TMZ.com is reporting that he had heart surgery a year ago while he was fighting it and just had his spleen removed recently which caused his body to shut down and they have a photo of him looking a lot more gaunt then I've seen him before with sunken in eyes and pasty skin and less hair. I hope it wasn't too painful for him and I wish him well in the afterlife!

This is terribly sad. I just loved him. I don't think I realized how much until now.

I am shocked and saddened. He was 10 times the journalist Mike Wallace will ever be...it's true. The good usually die young.
