Reese Witherspoon has filed for divorce from Ryan Phillippe, citing irreconcilable differences, PEOPLE has confirmed. Papers were filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
In the court papers, Witherspoon, 30, asks for joint custody of the couple's two children, Ava, 7, and Deacon, 3. The actress also seeks physical custody of her kids and that Phillippe, 32, be granted visitation rights.
Witherspoon also requests that the court not grant spousal support for Phillippe.
A rep for the couple first announced their separation on Oct. 30.
Though Phillippe hasn't commented on reports that he and Australian actress Abbie Cornis (who costars with him in an upcoming film) had a relationship, he issued an exclusive statement to PEOPLE on Wednesday, saying, “I’m not a perfect person, but I’m not guilty of a lot of the things I have been accused of. My priority is and always has been the health and safety of my family." Reps vehemently deny other allegations of hard partying and drug use.
The couple first met when a mutual friend brought Phillippe to Witherspoon's 21st-birthday party. Two years later, after they had costarred in 1999's Cruel Intentions, he proposed. They married in June 1999 and had Ava three months later.
Witherspoon, who won an Oscar for her role in last year's hit Walk the Line, is next expected to appear in the drama Rendition. Phillippe is currently starring in the WWII drama Flags of Our Fathers.

I think Reese is the smart one, she chooses RIGHT to file RIGHT after Britney. Because unlike Britney, she doesnt seem to want or NEED the publicity about her divorce.
Right now everyone is focused on Britney's life because she hasnt really been in the spot light (for good things) as much as Reese has. Not to mention everyone saw Brit & K-Fed coming, but even I held out hope for these guys.

I wonder if Reese is glad that Britney's divorce is upstaging hers, & taking some heat off.

I figure Reese is like that - she DOESNT want everyone talking about her divorce. And for Ryan, if his ego was part of it & his movie ends up decent, maybe the divorce wont get as ugly. After all, Reese even opted for joint custody - makes it sound like at least she's thinking of the children.

Why should Ryan get spousal support? I think they should split what was earned during the marriage, but Ryan is talented and CAN make it on his own after that.

Yea, I'm sure this was timed to fly under the radar as much as possible since Brit Brit is big news. Either way, hope it goes smoothly for these two...

I think Ryan should get spousal. Tried to use the quote option, but kept getting that freaking forbidden thing....
Why should he? He was working before they met (isn't that how they met?) and I am quite sure he will work after they divorce.
If they were just ordinary people, I highly doubt he would get spousal support.
Apparently, the one smart thing Britney did was have that prenup...

Those are the reasons I think he should NOT get spousal support - why does Reese need to support her ex-husband when he's capable of supporting himself???

It's not about him being a "man", it's about him being able to take care of himself. As was stated earlier, he ain't broke, he's still working - why should Reese support a man who can support himself?
