Jack Black slams artists who record political songs
Black's political attack
05/11/2006 1:30:00 PM
'Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny' star Jack Black has hit out at musicians and artists who record political songs.
(BANG) - Jack Black has slammed artists who record political songs.
The actor-and-musician says the anti-George Bush songs that have been released could have been more effective if they were timed properly.
Black said: "What good does it do? Literally every celebrity in America came out anti-Bush in full force before the last election. It might have actually hurt if they were timed right. I think the best thing I can do for anti-Bush is just to say nothing at all."
Meanwhile, Kyle Gass - the other member of Black's band Tenacious D - says teaching the 'Nacho Libre' actor to play guitar almost drove him "insane".
Gass revealed: "He picked it up pretty quickly, although there were some trying times. There was one period when he would just play the same three chords on the guitar. You don't want to squelch his inspiration, but, goddamn it, it drove me insane."

I love Tenacious D, but Jack needs to shut the fuck up. I loves me some good political songs, like Bright Eyes.

what does it matter if artists wanna express themselves politically or WHEN they wanna express their politics...? o.O i'm confused.
having said that, i LOVE tenatious D and hearing that little story about kyle teaching jack is pretty funny and endearing. i've always liked kyle more...

If he's talking about all those political songs by big artists that were released just after the last election, then I can sort of see his point. That doesn't make political songs in general dumb, though.

That's how I'd describe it, too. A lot of their songs sort of remind me of an 80's power ballad, to describe what they sound like a little more.

I loved the video for Tribute. And I don't care what people say, musically it is an excellent song.

Jack Black seems to have an excellent taste in music, and I think that a lot of the reason their band isn't always recognized for being good is how easily apparent their influences are. I, however, don't really see this as a negative.
