Brad Pitt strips down to his underwear...for art

Here is Brad Pitt as you've never seen him before. Clad in a pair of white boxer shorts, the 42-year-old Hollywood star oozes sex appeal.

But why is he still wearing socks and why does he appear to be standing in the rain?

Not to mention the gun in his right hand. The answer, naturally, is art.

The image, which features on the cover of the latest edition of Vanity Fair, is the work of avant-garde New York impresario Robert Wilson.

Inspired by the work of Andy Warhol, he has shot stilllife videos of several A-list actors, including Pitt, Sean Penn, Willem Dafoe, Robert Downey Jr and Isabella Rossellini.

If you think Angelina Jolie's other half looks slightly odd in his socks, how about Wilson's interpretation of Winona Ryder — buried up to her shoulders in sand alongside a gun, toothbrush and bright red handbag? It was inspired by the character Winnie in Samuel Beckett's play Happy Days.

Wilson's subjects were asked to "think of nothing" and limit their movements to one or two slow-motion gestures.

The resulting high-definition video was then turned into a sequence, with each portrait costing about £20,000 to produce.

The work will be displayed at New York galleries in January. Wilson's next project is an event to commemorate the victims of totalitarianism, to be staged in Moscow's Red Square next summer, in front of president Vladimir Putin.

It will include illuminated portraits of some of the millions who perished under Joseph Stalin, 500 videos made by Russian children and a choir with members from across Russia performing a specially composed work.

Meh ... he looks stupid. That picture would be much better if you took one of his socks and pulled it down over his head.

He's such a pretentious, insecure loser. We all know he's got the IQ of a rock - posing for "art" that's really, like, deep and shit, isn't going to change that. In the video at vanity fair's website, he's just standing there and there's some voice being like apple pie, peaches, apple pie. Avant-garde is indeed the correct word for the video. I think this was filmed around Sept 2004 because Brad has his Mr. and Mrs. Smith haircut and it looks like he still has his wedding ring on. Simply put Brad likes to try different things.

I think over 2 years ago the video was done for Wilson. I don't think Brad pose for Vanity Fair. VF is doing their first annual art edition and decided to use pictures from that video in the mag. VF may have tried to put Brad down during the JA interview but they know that Brad on the cover sells.

Brad posed for this is in 2004. So for the upcoming issue, they had to use a Brad Pitt picture from a photographer so they wouldn't have to get permission from Brad directly to use the pic. How desperate is Vanity Fair? They can't get him to even pose for their magazine so they use a picture of him from an old but hot photoshoot. They are pathetic. Ahhh...but yes Brad is career is going well so everyone's got to latch on to his coattails and latch on this fame.

Let's see..Maniston wouldn't be who she is without Brad's fame and power. Okra has to mention him whenever she gets a chance. Paltrow shows at HIS movie premiere to get some free press and get her career going again. Donald Trump has to mention him so someone will pay attention to him and his low rated show again. Damn, that's a lot of coattail riders. But seriously, Vanity Fair obviously wanted Brad on the cover, so what do they do. They go to the photographer and not Brad to get his pics. Reeks of desperation.
