Thumbs down Brad Pitt's Charity Appearance in India a FAKE!!!

MALAVLI: After dodging the media in Pune and Jaipur for close to a month, Hollywood star Brad Pitt made a sudden appearance at Malavli village near Lonavla on Monday, where he joined former US president Jimmy Carter to construct houses for the poor.

For the 2,000-plus foreign and Indian volunteers engaged in constructing 100 houses in a week, it was an amazing sight to observe the 82-year-old Nobel laureate laying bricks and cement alongside the muscular Pitt. His appearance at the site, 56 km from Pune, around Monday noon took everybody offguard. The hunky actor — sporting a grey hat and dark jeans — surrounded by private security went to house number 73, where Carter and his wife Rosalynn were working.

The trio exchanged greetings and talked for a few minutes, before Pitt joined the former US first couple in voluntary physical labour, involving laying of concrete blocks and cement at the house.

After spending about quarter of an hour with the couple, the actor went to the restricted zone at the back of the site and made his departure unnoticed.

The Carters, in jeans and sports shoes, worked for long hours on Monday at the site undertaking all tasks related with masonry and only took a lunch break. Jimmy Carter's advanced age failed to dampen his enthusiasm as he climbed ladders and lifted huge concrete castings with ease.

Malavli is witnessing a week-long programme of house-building for poor undertaken by the international non-profit organisation Habitat for Humanity (HfH). Under this project, 100 houses — each 350 sq ft in size — will be constructed during the week by voluntary labour of more than 2,000 volunteers from across the world.

For Sadhiya Sheikh, owner of house number 73 where Carter and his wife were labouring, the experience of having two such celebrities working to put together her future dwelling was exhilarating.

The mother of two and a housewife was chosen as the lucky candidate to receive the former president's labour, after being selected on the basis of performance in voluntary labour contribution herself over the last four months. Sadhiya's husband works as a driver in a local travel agency.

Sadhiya and her husband worked alongside Carter on their house since 8.30 am. "He and his wife are very simple. They introduced themselves and inquired about our family," Sadhiya told TOI. "I have heard quite a lot about him since last four months when the project was first announced."

The same feeling was expressed by Shalini Sathe (25), owner of the conjoined house number 74, where the Carters were also contributing their labour. Sathe, expecting her second child in December, saw Monday's unfolding events as a high-point in her life.

Her husband Subhash was especially happy about Pitt's arrival. "I know he is Brad Pitt as I have been hearing about him since some days," he said.

PR MOVE....once there's bad press, do some charity work where there are pictures of you, even though the pictures are taken for 1 minute and you stay only 16 mins while the former president who is much older than you spends hours. Can't beat him up much, at least he showed up.

Damn, these Indians are scathing.....Where's Nitey to the rescue!

I'm shocked that Brad would use a charity as a good photo opp and then ditch it. (/end sarcasm)

Why did I know the source of the story was Times of India before I actually saw it? Hon, the newspaper is as legit as the National Enquirer..wait in that your world..that actually doesn't mean anything. You probably believe National Enquirer is devoted to giving the facts right? HA! Time and time again, I've proved that Times of India is self - contradicting and is tabliod journalism at best. But you keep on believing what helps you sleep at night. Aww. one golden couple already broken up and now another one on its way to divorcing. You must be crushed. After all, isn't that what you live for. OMG. How dare Brad leave Jen and actually try to fucking live his life. The audacity I tell you!

By the way, you might want to forward this story to the Habitat for Humanity website because they don't believe you. Actually, from the looks of it, their website was actually boasting that Brad came to help. You better scurry on over there to open their eyes so they can see the truth, cause you know Times of India said it, so it MUST be true.

================================================== ===

Actor, architecture buff, and philanthropist Brad Pitt joined the Carters and volunteers to help build a new home with Habitat partner family Aziz and Sadhiya Sheikh. Pitt laid cement blocks that will help complete the exterior of the home.

Also helping to build simple, decent Habitat homes on Monday were Diana Hayden, former Miss World and Miss India; Steve Waugh, internationally-known Australian cricket player; and Pooja Bedi, actress and long-term Habitat for Humanity supporter in India. Other celebrities and dignitaries are also joining the build.

This year’s JCWP is associated with Habitat for Humanity India’s “India Builds” program. The five-year campaign plans to engage 1 million volunteers in helping to provide shelter in partnership with 250,000 people. The campaign also seeks to raise funds for a sustainable revolving fund worth US$50 million.

Jimmy Carter looks pretty happy too in the first two pictures.

But thanks for laughs anyways.

For a second, I was actually tempted to join the discussion rationally, but never mind.

Thanks for the laugh, y'all.

Just to rub the salt in a little deeper. Here's some more proof.

Brad Pitt, Habitat for Humanity Build Houses in India

TUESDAY OCTOBER 31, 2006

On Monday Brad Pitt visited the Western India town of Lonavala, where he helped former President Jimmy Carter, his wife Rosalynn and other Habitat for Humanity volunteers build two new houses.

The actor, who has been in Pune, India, with Angelina Jolie filming A Mighty Heart, arrived around noon – when the press corps was at lunch – and for a few moments went unnoticed among the 1,500 foreign volunteers.

But then a Times of India photographer happened to recognize Pitt and the whole press pack came running.

During his visit, which lasted until sundown, Pitt chatted with the Carters and then helped lay cement blocks. "He was perfectly relaxed and didn't mind being photographed at all," local reporter Pranjal Bhujan told PEOPLE. "He did everything – he mixed the cement, carried it to the house, laid it on the bricks and then placed the bricks on the wall that was being built."

Pitt also spoke with Aziz and Sadhiya Sheikh, who will own one of the houses he worked on – although Sadhiya Sheikh later told reporters she had never heard of the actor.

But her husband, a taxi driver, had, because of all the recent coverage of Pitt and Jolie's activities in Pune. "I know he is the famous American actor," Aziz said. "I was excited and honored that he and Mr. Carter were helping to build my house."

Pitt and Carter also helped out on a house for rickshaw driver Dev Aggarwal and his wife, who is seven months pregnant. "I didn't know who Pitt was, but to have a famous man visiting your house is an auspicious sign with a baby on the way. It means good things are going to come," Aggarwal told reporters.

Once again, thanks for the laughs. Does it get tiring for you all? Claiming they didn't give the money to a school in Namibia. I proved that one wrong . Claiming Angelina didn't give funds to someone in Cambodia when in fact the guy was stealing the money from the organization which Angelina set up in Cambodia. Claiming Brad only stayed for 15 minute photo op for Habitat for Humanity - proved that one wrong also. You know what they say- you can't argue facts!

I don't buy people magazine articles...thanks. India Times is in India and they are not far up the ass of Brangelina so I would take Indian Times over people magazine anyday!!!

It is so obvious that people put this up to counter his 15 minute stay. I'd like to see Brad Shitt buy the Times of India. When they say he was there till sundown, then I'll buy it, until then, this was just another photo op for him and he was there ONLY 15 MINUTES!!!!!
