Playing the Britney Baby Name Game

Either tabloid magazines are off their game or it's officially a sign of the apocalypse: Britney Spears and Kevin Federline have outwitted the press.
More than a month ago, the southern-fried couple welcomed the birth of their second child, a son who popular opinion—and sources close to the couple—determined had been named Sutton Pierce. Now comes word that the couple's reign of cutesy "SPF" monikers began and ended with Sean Preston.
According to a copy of the child's birth certificate, as filed at the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder's office and obtained by TMZ.com, the pop princess' latest offspring is one Jayden James Federline.
The document was signed by Federline on Sept. 13, the day after his fourth child's birth at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and was registered with the county just two days later.
Sutton Pierce was widely reported to be the child's name and was taken as fact after no one from the Spears-Federline camp denied the media's christening. Of course, they never confirmed it, either.
Rumors that the name may not be on the mark surfaced earlier this month and gained traction when Federline was interviewed on a Seattle radio show and refused to answer questions about either the name or sex of his newest born.
"Isn't that strange when you hear that, when you have a child and people tell you the sex is a different one?" the DJ asked.
"Yeah it's crazy. Well it's even crazier when people are telling me my child's name," Federline replied.
Cue the media frenzy.
The aspiring rapper's sort-of revelation led people to question not only the baby's name, but its sex as well, particularly after Spears was photographed buying pink baby clothes in a Malibu clothing store.
The confusion was exacerbated—and conspiracy theories strengthened—by the fact that that no photos have yet been released of the child, though theories have been floated that the Spears-Federlines are holding out on releasing a Shiloh-like spread in order to better coincide with K-Fed's album release Oct. 31.
Jayden James more closely resembles one of the early media frontrunners for potential Federline baby names. Reports leading up to Spears' labor day declared that the waning pop star would be naming her child Jailynn in tribute to her father, Jamie, and her mother, Lynne.
While there's no word yet on possible familial derivations for young Jayden James, at the very least, he won't be alone on the playground.
Jayden, which means "God has heard" in Hebrew, was ranked the 88th most popular baby name of 2005 in an annual list compiled by the Social Security Administration.
In addition to middle America, little J.J. will also have plenty of company on the A-list offspring roster.
Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Christian Slater and Ryan Haddon, Cheryl Tiegs and Rod Stryker and Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi have all welcomed Jadens in recent years.
