David Beckham to be knighted

An insider tells British newspaper Daily Star, "The Beckhams are already showbiz royalty and now they look set to move a step closer to the real thing.
"It is widely believed Tony Blair will put David forward for a knighthood in the New Year list.
"He was a fantastic skipper and player for England and there's every chance he'll be back. He's also done a tremendous amount for children and the community."

So now there is no prestige at all in being knighted. Thanks, Becks. Posh will be even more insufferable now. I wonder if he'll make her call him Sir like Ben Kingsley did to his ex-wife, and to anybody else unfortunate enough to encounter him.

^ Why is it shameful?
At first I thought it was odd and random, but then I remembered reading that people who are knighted are people who have greatly contributed to the country, and considering he is one of the biggest soccer/football players in the world, that would count as a contribution to his country, I think. He has probably brought in loads of money because of his fans who watch him/go to see him, and he's certainly made wherever he goes a name.
