Travis Breaks Up, Shanna Speaks Out
In a town where principles are not always in abundance, it's nice to know karma is still alive and kicking.
Travis Barker, the former Blink-182 drummer and inexplicable fight-worthy object of affection for Paris Hilton and
Shanna Moakler, will be laid up for the next eight weeks nursing a broken arm.
To recap, Hilton and Moakler have both made allegations of battery stemming from an early Wednesday nightclub confrontation and yet somehow Barker's the one with the injury. Go figure.
Barker's publicist, Myleik Teele, claimed the rocker suffered the break while shooting the music video for the debut single, "When Your Heart Stops Beating," for his new band, (+44). The injury was exacerbated after the 30-year-old played a series of seven apparently drum-intensive shows during a European promotional tour.
Barker was ordered by a doctor earlier this week to stay off his right arm for about two months.
Though not off his feet, it would seem.
The doctor's orders came prior to the Wednesday a.m. battle royale between Hilton and Barker's estranged wife at Hollywood's Hyde nightclub, but apparently did not stop the drummer from attending an event Tuesday night with the "Stars Are Blind" singer just hours before the dustup.
Despite claims from Hilton's rep that the heiress and the rocker are "just friends," the duo was spotted earlier Tuesday evening at
Rolling Stone's Hot 100 List party at the Sofitel's Stone Rose in Los Angeles.
"The two did not walk the press line together, but she settled inside a cabana with Travis and stayed there," a partygoer told E! Online senior editor Marc Malkin. "The two closed the curtains to the bungalow so that no one could see inside and bother them."
It's this strictly platonic relationship that purportedly fueled the nightclub skirmish that resulted in dueling police reports and allegations of battery by both Moakler and Hilton.
According to the LAPD, Hilton claimed that she was the victim of an unprovoked attack by the 31-year-old former
Miss USA at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. Moakler, meanwhile, claimed she was assaulted by onetime Hilton beau Stavros Niarchos as she argued with the celebutante.
Hilton's publicist, Elliott Mintz, claimed that Moakler "struck Paris in her jaw with closed fists" and was "shouting all kinds of foul words" at his supposedly innocent client, after which Mintz accompanied Hilton to the Hollywood police station and filed a report alleging battery against the reality star.
Moakler, however, has vehemently denied the Hilton-sanctioned version of events.
"I absolutely did not punch Paris Hilton," Moakler told
Extra. "I was assaulted and I put all the details in the police report for the authorities to handle properly."
Another witness to the altercation,
Dancing with the Stars pro Cheryl Burke, has also spoken out in defense of the former contestant.
"Well, all I know is Shanna did not punch Paris in the face...not even close," she told
E! News. "Shanna's not that type of person at all."
Burke went on to say that she also witnessed Niarchos push Shanna down the stairs and pour a drink over her head.
"It was totally shocking to me...I would say 15-20 people saw this," she said.
Yesterday, Moakler's publicist, Susan Madore, also disputed the claim from Hilton's camp that the incident was a one-sided attack, claiming that both women were exchanging obscenities and confirming that, mid-argument, Hilton's ex intervened, bending Moakler's wrists, pouring a drink on her and shoving her down stairs.
Backing up Moakler's account was another Hyde patron, who told
People that at around 1:30 a.m., "you could hear a collective gasp around the place--Stavros had an empty cocktail glass in his hand and Shanna was standing there wet."
Madore also said that after failing to get any assistance from cops outside the club and being refused help from the nightclub owner, Moakler drove herself to the police station and filed a report of battery against Niarchos.
In August, Barker filed for divorce from Moakler, sparking a brief battle of words, via MySpace, in which Moakler said she was heartbroken and Barker lodged accusations of marital infidelity.
Last month, video of Barker and Hilton kissing in New York's Marquee club made the Internet rounds, leading Moakler to release the following statement:
"In order to maintain a positive atmosphere for my children I've decided not to exacerbate the situation by commenting on each new aspect of Travis Barker's personal life."
At a party on Sept. 30, she spoke again of Hilton and Barker, telling
People, "I wish the happiest for both of them. I'm closing the door and moving forward. I'm a mom. I've got three kids. I'm a role model."

for some reason i side with Shanna on this one...if Niarchos did really push her down the stairs and pour a drink over her head..i wish some more people would stand up and say something...not like we dont already know Paris makes shit up
