JUNKIE rocker Pete Doherty has vowed to kick the evil smack habit for good, for the sake of his gorgeous girlfriend Kate Moss.

After playing the Ambassador in Dublin on Tuesday, the Babyshambles frontman confessed: "My new addiction is rehab."

The band also played in Carlow and Belfast this week - Pete's first gigs since he checked out of the Priory clinic in North London - after being treated for an addiction to crack cocaine and heroin.

Pete, 27, was overheard telling a pal: "I'm off the drugs and I'm determined to stay off them. I'm more healthy than I've been in years. The only drugs I'm on at the moment is a little bit of booze.

"I'm going to do it for the lads and for Kate. We've been though a lot together, everyone has stood by me during my darkest moments.

"It was torture for them, I know, they could have gone off and formed another band but they stuck with me. It's payback time now. I have to stay clean for the band and the fans.

"Any available time off I have I'll go back to The Priory to see my doctors and the other residents, some of whom have become my friends. At the moment I'm trying my best to keep away from other junkies and situations where there's a lot of drugs.

"I was really worried that I couldn't be creative without the drugs but now I know that I can. I think I'm writing some of my best stuff yet. Our fans have been through a lot with me, too, but we've got a great EP coming out which we're very excited about.

"And we've enough material ready for a great new album."

Cynics who scoff that we've heard all this before should check out a note Pete has posted on a fan website, which echoes his claims to be a reformed character.

He writes: "No palming stones off scallies in alleys, not with the missus here anyway. Oh, and probation's weekly tests and court, and the wilful destruction of my entire life.

"Do you think they've sown some seeds in me at that Priory gaff? Expensive f***ing seeds, I fancy, although it could be cheaper than getting bang on it this autumn."

He then details the tracklisting for his Irish gigs. And after La Belle Et La Bete - for which 32-year-old Kate joined him in an impromptu duet - Pete writes in brackets "featuring Mrs Doherty".

We've got our hats on stand-by...

Good question. She looked pretty coked out in some recent pictures. Also, I'm skeptical about Pete Doherty's prospects for staying clean.

...according to Perez's site it says that Pete was spotted buying syringes shortly after making this statement. NTM...they have a real crap picture of him. He looks like he gained a lot of weight when he was in rehab.

I genuinely hope they get it together.... but I'm not too optimistic. They both need to sort themselves out. Hopefully they can do it together. Otherwise... some time apart in separate rehab is necessary.

Wasn't one of the things that made Kate (publically at least) clean up her act last year the threat from Jefferson Hack to remove Lila from her custody? I think someone needs to make that threat again. Those photos of her in the Sun (even though it's a lying pile of shit not worth the paper it's printed on) aren't exactly promising. She could just be a bit snotty but... this is Cocaine Kate we're talking about!!

I read a gossip article that reported Pete was seen purchasing syringes...so I don't think he meant it when he said he'd stay clean.

Kate Moss' junkie rocker boyfriend, Pete Doherty, was seen buying two syringes from a chemist's - just days after leaving rehab.

The Babyshambles frontman - who left London's The Priory on Monday (Sept. 25, 2006) after being treated for addictions to crack cocaine and heroine - was in Dublin, Ireland, to perform a gig, when he popped into a "Health Express" to pick up the hypodermic needles yesterday lunchtime (Sept. 27, 2006).
The singer left his model girlfriend - who was accompanying him on his sell-out Irish tour - in their suite at the Morrison Hotel as he sneaked off to the chemist's wearing a scruffy white T-shirt and a black suit.
Meanwhile, Doherty was overheard telling a friend that he was determined to stay clean for Moss.
After playing at the Ambassador in Dublin on Tuesday (Sept. 28, 2006) the singer stated: "My new addiction is rehab."
