Default Oprah's first radio show: she's lording it over whitey, apparently

f it wasn't already totally evident that Oprah Winfrey can talk about anything for any length of time, her debut today on her own XM Radio channel just confirmed it. The talk-show queen gabbed with her best pal Gayle King (who called her, inexplicably, "Mommy") on what is nominally King's show on "Oprah & Friends," the satellite channel that launched today.

Among many, many other things, Oprah talked about her humble beginnings in Mississippi, and particularly about how her mother's highest aspiration for her was that she might end up cleaning white people's houses, because "they give away nice clothes." And then Oprah pointed out that now that she's Oprah, she has "all these white people" working for her, and that in fact there's only one black person on the staff. Way to turn the tables, girl.

Finally -- and this was just in the first fifteen minutes -- Oprah moved onto her most recent favorite topic, excrement. O assured Gayle that the reason she doesn't have children wasn't that she can't deal with poo, or "pooty," as the pair called it. For this -- and whatever follows -- is what XM is paying Oprah $55 million over the next three years.

Hmmm....where to begin? Poo? Pooty? Mommy? Oprah seems to have lost the plot and not a second too soon. I stand by my prediction that she will soon speak of herself in the third person, if it hasn't happened already.

I have bad news for her.

On radio, you have much less spectacle going for you; no tears
streaking down people's cheeks, no quivering chins, no evil eyes,
no tearful hugs...the ideas and the words coming out of your mouth
are all you have to mesmerize an audience with, and if you are a
complete and utter sophist, that will show up in a week.

Oprah has met her match -- an unforgiving media.

That's why I love radio. It is such a great medium.

She's an idiot bitch. I'm a colored person (sooooo many races inside me, oy) and it had become very obvious over the years that she treats her minority, but especially black, guests so different from the whites. I remember seeing many times when an over excited white woman on stage walks up to Oprah, arms spread wide, hoping to receive a hug and then Oprah gives the woman a weird two handed high five, one on each hand, while keeping the rest of her body about two feet away. Yet, right before or/and right after, she does a prolonged body hug with a black guest. Racism bites, either way.
