Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are giving gifts of $1 million each to two humanitarian organizations, an adviser to the couple said Wednesday.
The recipients are Global Action for Children and Medecins sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders.
"In the most troubled parts of the world _ places that much of the world has abandoned _ MSF is always there," said Jolie in a statement issued by Trevor Neilson, the couple's philanthropic and political adviser. "I have seen these brave men and women working in war zones and horrific conditions and I deeply admire them."
Jolie, who co-starred with Pitt in the 2005 film "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," is a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commission for Refugees.
Jennifer Delaney, U.S. director for Global Action for Children, expressed her thanks for the gift from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
"Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt not only care, but more important, are taking concrete action to address the fact that there will be 20 million children orphaned by AIDS by 2010, and millions more orphaned by tuberculosis, malaria and conflict or whose parents are sick and dying," she said.
Delaney said the vast majority of these children are in the care of extended families and communities that need support to overcome the ravages of HIV/AIDS and poverty.

Oh yeah, where would the world be if it weren't for Pitt and Jolie. I say give them a halo NOW! Sheesh...
Okay, I hate to say that (because, hey, what kind of person needs a "philanthropic and political adviser"?! Like they aren't philanthropic and need someone to show them how to be it... *snort*), but I totally agree with Angelina on MSF. And $1 million is a very generous sum.

Doctors without Borders is an amazing organization and I'm happy to see them get money from anywhere.

Doctors Without Borders? That's nice of them...that's 2 million dollars between the both of them. They'll get it back tenfold as they should. It's never a bad thing when people help out the unfortunate, especially children.
How about donating to MY cause Angie and Brad? Women Living NEAR Borders...lol

It's very nice that they made those generous donations, but I wish Angelina Jolie would not speak of her and her boyfriend in the third person as though they were royalty.

Huh? Did I miss where she said that? I thought it was the organization spokesperson talking about Jolie and Pitt.
Anyhow, I agree that it's a terrific use of their $$ resources and a worthy cause and all, but I do wonder exactly how much is calculated just to cast herself in a positive, philanthropic light. Jolie-haters aside, I mean. I would just die to know a third party's unbiased perspective on her true motives behind giving so generously. I'd love to believe it was all genuine interest in these very serious world problems, but how juicy would it be if later Brad or someone close to her said, "Yeah, it was weird how she really loved the publicity more than the actual work she was doing."
I actually like Angelina, and so far I do get the impression she's sincere. But maybe I just like to stir up shit, or am so jaded and willing to believe the worst of celebrities...

^^I think that may be because we do see so many instances of celebs doing things to further their careers instead of for good...I think she honestly cares. I know there are people who can (and probably will) counter everything good that is said about her (them) but they have done some wonderful things. And honestly, so what if she does it to make herself look good-there are hundreds of people being helped by it-IMO it doesn't matter where the money is from, as long as the people are benefiting from it...

I have never been a big fan of Angelina or Jennifer or Brad but I do not doubt her her sincerity in her charity work. I think it is wonderful that she brings attention to these causes and think it is sad that it took her to show Brad the way - but hell - at least he got there - many never do.

Ok, yes, it was Jennifer Delaney who made the "Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt" comment. It was early in the morning when I posted that, and I was a little sleepy.

Eh, God Bless them. That's great that they give their time and money for worthy causes. Even better, they bring attention to the causes.
TedC had a comment on his blog today about Brangelina not being the brightest people in the room. At least they have sense enough to hire an adviser I suppose.
That's all the damn good I'll say about these two.

Firstly, it's all tax deductable. Secondly, why should they get it back tenfold? Why can't they donate and not DESERVE anything?

^Tax deductable or not, it's easy to be cynical--that's easy. The hard part would be to believe that there are actually people in this world who give and don't have any other agenda except the desire to help (imagine that!...lol).
You asked me a question and here's my answer: Because I totally believe in the Biblical philosophy of giving. God abundantly blesses the gracious giver (2Cor. 9:6, 8-14). I'm not going to get into this religious debate over it but that's basically it.
