Praise the lord and all that is holy: Oprah will not run for President.

September 17, 2006 -- OPRAH Winfrey is putting the legal kibosh on a grass-roots campaign to put her in the White House. Her lawyers have ordered Kansas City businessman Patrick Crowe, who has spearheaded the effort for years, to cease and desist using a phone Web site that contains the talk-show queen's name and a toll-free number whose last five digits spell out Oprah - because they are allegedly causing "damage and irreparable injury" to her production company, Harpo. They've also told Crowe, a former math teacher, to pull his book, "Oprah for President: Run Oprah Run," for the same reason. Crowe said: "I'm genuinely puzzled . . . How could asking her to run possibly cause [her] damage and irreparable injury? If Oprah asked you to run for president, would that be a compliment or would you threaten her with legal action?" Winfrey's reps confirmed that her lawyers have written to Crowe asking him to stop, but declined to comment further.

Doesn't this guy know that Oprah must be in control at all times and anyone trying to steal even one ray of her limelight is a threat and will be squashed like a bug? Plus, if she ran for president her secret $cientology dealings might be revealed.

Don't you need a political machine to get in -- big money backers,
big oil, big insurance, and the support of the American Manufacturers'
Association before you can before President?
Why would some idiot author think that he could just convince her
to run on sheer popularity?

Too many skeltons for starters....and her ego couldn't handle it secondly. And she wouldn't win.

At any rate she'd be loads more competent than the retarded monkey we have now.

I'd just be worried what she'd set her mind to, like maybe making us all dress like soccer moms on crack or wearing brown lipstick on a regular basis. I don't know, ten years ago I would have voted for her but now, she's too full of herself. She's like a caricature of who she used to be.

Well, for starters, she has said repeatedly that she is NOT interested. I would be unamused too if someone didn't respect my answer/position, and continued to make a name for themselves by doing something I had made clear I wanted no part of.
As far as ego goes, she's no more egotistical than any other politician, and as for money, that isn't a problem either. I think she is smart to turn it down -- who needs that kind of grief?
I've never heard that she is involved in Scientology and I read a lot about this kind of stuff. Is there a credible link or something else that backs this up? I'd be curious to see it.

Of course there isn't a credible link...it's idle speculation on my part, based on her continual sucking up to various $cientology types like ThetinTom, John Travolta and Kirstie Alley. I could well be barking up the wrong tree but what the hell...it's all in good fun.
As far as Oprah, I know she's said she doesn't want to do it but it still seems a bit heavy handed to sic the lawyers on the guy. Take it for what it is and laugh it off. If anything, she should be flattered. People are so fucking litigous these days...how about she picks up a phone or writes him a letter. Far more effective and civil.
