Lawyer Says Smith Had to Be Sedated
By JESSICA ROBERTSON, Associated Press Writer
document.write(getElapsed("20060914T000927Z"));1 hour agoUPDATED 29 MINUTES AGO
Anna Nicole Smith and her son Daniel Smith, 13, ...
NASSAU, Bahamas - Anna Nicole Smith was so distraught by the death of her son Daniel that she had to be sedated and she later suffered memory loss of the event, said her Bahamian attorney, Michael Scott.
Anna Nicole Smith and another one of her attorneys, Howard K. Stern, continued efforts to revive 20-year-old Daniel Wayne Smith even after he had been proclaimed dead by staff at Doctors Hospital in Nassau, Scott said.
"Anna Nicole was so distraught at the loss of Daniel that she refused to leave his side and it was necessary to sedate her in order to check her out of the hospital," Stern read from a prepared statement. "The devastation and grief over Daniel's sudden death coupled with the sedation has been so extreme that Anna Nicole experienced memory loss of the event."
"It was necessary for Howard to tell Anna again that Daniel had passed away," he added.
Stern was the third person in the hospital room that Bahamian authorities had earlier declined to identify.
Authorities said they believe they know what killed Smith on Sunday, three days after his mother gave birth to a baby girl. But they were waiting for a toxicology report to confirm the findings.
Anna Nicole Smith, a reality TV star and former Playboy model who went to the U.S. Supreme Court this year to sue for an inheritance, was in seclusion in the Bahamas with family and friends, Scott said.

Doesn't surprise me. But why exactly does that need to be said in a statement from her lawyer? Is it somehow helping her? I must be missing it. Unless they're suspecting her for some reason, and her lawyers are trying to make it clear that she was so devastated and obviously not involved.
Other than that, it just seems like an invasion of her privacy, especially at such a difficult time in her life. We don't need to know all the details. I hope she has some sense and control over what they say but I doubt it.

Interesting how they clarified that Stern was the "third person in the room". This gets weirder and weirder. I, too, am confused by what they're implying in all of this.
In case this hasn't been added somewhere else, Entertainment Tonight has confirmed that the baby girl has been named Hannah and that toxicology reports regarding her son's death, expected to be finalized on Friday, will not be made public unless Anna Nicole choses to do so.

Maybe he ODd on TrimSpa?
The police say there was a 3rd person in the room but won't say who it was or release toxicology results for fear of 'tainting' a coroners jury. The Bahamas is a very small place. AN's other lawyer, Michael Scott has confirmed the 3rd person was Howard K. Stern.
Knowing AN's fondness for 'exotic substances' they might do a tox test on that poor baby too.
What a mess.

On Greta Van Susteren tonight, a reporter from Inside Edition stated
Anna Nicole hired a Bahamian lawyer and he stated that Nicole had to be
sedated after discovering her son, because of that she’s suffering
memory loss. Also, sources say that Anna Nicole was heard screaming
“you caused this”, but it’s unknown who she said it to. The reporter
wondered why her lawyer is already stating that she has memory loss.

I don't know, severe stress could cause memory loss. And she could have been yelling at a doctor or nurse thinking they didn't work hard enough to save him. I wish they would just release the autopsy results and get it over with. I wish I had an address I could send her a card or something.

This whole thing gets stranger by the day. Anna, Howard and Daniel were in the room, one dies and the others know how. I also don't get the memory loss thing....Why not just stay silent until necessary.
I doubt the son would fly all the way there to 'celebrate' with his mom to just OD... so I'm confused on the waiting for the 'toxicology' comments.
I also think Howard is the father of the baby girl. Poor little girl.

Yeah, severe stress can do that to you and she seemed like a fairly fragile person to begin with. Plus, depending on the sedative they gave her, she could be in la la land for quite some time.

I don't care about all this suspicion right now. Her son just died, and I feel bad for her. I don't think she had anything to do with it at all. Is it so hard to actually believe what they say? I haven't found too many reasons to be suspicious, and even if I was, this isn't the time to be. Let her take it all in first, and then swoop in for the kill.

At this point, we have no right to say how she should feel...she is very hormonal and just lost a child-so they are saying she had some Ativan-so what? My god, seriously, leave her alone...no one knows her emotions...she never claimed to be stable!
