44-yr-old Marcia Cross pregnant with 1st child
Quote:
Marcia Cross is pregnant with her first child, her publicist confirms.
The Desperate Housewives actress, 44, wasted no time starting a family after exchanging "I do's" with first husband, 48-year-old stockbroker Tom Mahoney, on June 24. She is due in April, when Housewives will be wrapping production on Season 3.
In 2005, Cross expressed her strong desire to have a child. "I definitely want to be a mom — whether I have to have my own or not, we'll see," she told USA TODAY. Cross was well aware of the risks associated with later-in-life pregnancies, and spoke frankly that she might feel more confident adopting or even hiring a surrogate.
Many new mothers in their 40s, she said, rely on donated eggs — at a very costly price tag. "I don't like the average woman being misled into thinking that fertility is something that goes on forever," said Cross.
"When a woman gets older, they get donor eggs, which doesn't make the baby any less beautiful or perfect. One's own eggs only last so long, and sometimes at 43 or 44 you can have your own baby, but statistically it's very difficult and expensive. You don't want to wait that long."
Earlier — when her TV character's son was revealed to be gay, the actress told the paper, "I'll be lucky to have a child; may they be whatever they want to be."
Producers were still deciding whether to incorporate Cross' pregnancy into the storyline. In the Oct. 1 show, the second episode of the new season, the actress' character, uptight Bree, will wed Kyle MacLachlan's mysterious and potentially dangerous Orson. Season 3 of ABC's Desperate Housewives premieres Sept. 24.

I'm happy for her. Maybe the baby will be red-headed, like his/her mama.

i'm sorry; but i'm guessing her child might not be so healthy when it's delivered b/c of her age and isn't 6 weeks (give or take) a little early to announce something like that.

It is really early to announce...especially when you are 40+. I hope she has a healthy baby.
I also hope she lays off the botox while pregnant. I love little wrinkly babies...if she keeps it up, the baby will come out looking as smooth as a china doll.

Good for her. I hope all goes well for her and baby.
Might have to tune into DH to see how they hide her belly. Haven't watched that show since the beginning of second season.

I think this is a prime example of how the whole concept of women past the age of 35 are 'too old to have kids'. NOT ANYMORE HONEY!!! You are going to see more and more women in their late 30's and into their 40's having babies. That's just how it is now...the trend is changing.
Good for Marcia. I'm happy for her. Let's pray for a healthy child.

I am happy for her too -- I actually like Marcia. But, 44 is still considered old for a first child. Trends may change...but human bodies don't and her eggs are considered old. Just because more women are doing it doesn't make is safer.
I sincerely hope she has a great pregnancy and a healthy baby -- that's actually what I wish for all expectant moms!

What is that supposed to mean? It's "sad" that heterosexual Marcia Cross found love, got married, and is joyfully expecting her first child? I don't understand your comment.
Anyway, i'm really happy for Marcia. I remember reading in interviews in the past, she would talk kind of wistfully about how she had always wanted a family, but that it just unfortunately hadn't happened for her. I especially remember her making comments like that around the time she was falsely rumored to be gay about a year and a half ago. I'm happy for her that in the past year and a half or so, that she's gone from being single & longing to be a wife & mother, to being married & pregnant. Best wishes to Marcia & her hubby for a healthy baby!
