Madonna and Guy Ritchie to adopt African baby

Madonna and Guy Ritchie are planning to adopt an African baby, according to reports.

The couple hope an addition to the family will strengthen their marriage, which has been the subject of speculation for some time, according to The People.

A source told the paper that they took the decision after trying unsuccessfully to have their own child for some time. Now they plan to visit an orphanage in Malawi next month and bring back a child.

"Guy would have liked nothing more than to have had another child with Madonna," said a friend of the pair. "But after months and months of trying this hasn't proved possible yet. Madonna has now fallen for the idea of adopting a child in Malawi."

The source also said their marriage is still coming under increasing pressure. "She is still as up for the showbiz lifestyle as ever," he said. "It's hard to keep up with Madonna. For Guy it has become nigh on impossible.

"Guy is a very talented film director in his own right but his career has not taken off in anything like the way it looked as though it would. Sometimes he doesn't look like he wants to be around the Madonna entourage. It is not his scene and never has been."

I don't want to sound callous because I think adoption is wonderful; however, I can't help but think this is becoming the latest 'trend' for celebrities all in the name of publicity and putting forth a positive image. It's just too coincidental that all these celebrities with loads of money, but little time, morals and family values are coming forth for the betterment of the children of the world. They're much too self absorbed for that!

They do. Sharon Stone has now adopted 3 caucasion infant boys, Rosie O'donnell has also adopted 3. Michelle Pfieffer adopted an AA girl whom she named Claudia many many years ago. Her daughter is now probably 12 or so. I can't be sure, but I thought Conner and Isabella (Tom and Nicole's children) were also from N. America.

Anyway, of course ALL children deserve a home, regardless of their country of origin, a mom and a dad. I do agree though, that if this is true, then it is about her image and that all the other kids are doing it. However, I am a bit jaded, as I loathe Madonna.
