In his new study, NICOLE KIDMAN, film historian DAVID THOMSON claims the former couple held a mirror up to their relationship issues when they signed up for the 1999 STANLEY KUBRICK film.
Thomson says, "I think she learned from him just what was required in taking charge of yourself. That’s what broke them up.
"She realised she could be as big as him if she became as strong and self-centred. He wanted a beautiful, bright, obedient consort. She wanted a teacher. It worked. Then it stopped.
"I think Eyes Wide Shut was the process that brought it to an end because the characters they played were so close to themselves."

Well there might be a grain of truth that the movie's main characters were close to TomNic - apparently Kubrick had to bring in a sex coach to show them how to make out convincingly for the big screen because they never did in real life.

That was a really bad movie. And the fact that they had to bring in a sex coach when they were supposed to be a happily married and madly in love couple... hahaha.

When I look at pictures of Katie with Tom, it reminds me of how Nicole was with Tom. Holding his hand, and standing behind him. Such a 'show'.

I actually loved the movie. The concept was great, but the ending was just too abrupt. It could have been a lot better, but still made for some good viewing.

omg warren i love that movie too..and I hated the end also!!

i always think maybe it was bc he died he didn't get to finish it properly..

in the movie it ends with nic wanting to have sex with some sailor..so that could fit into tom being gay...she wanted hot sex, lust & passion and tom couldn't deliver

My ex-husband and I were home with our sick kid one day, and we watched it with the volume off and redubbed it ourselves...ala Mystery Science Theater. It was an excellent comedy!

I've seen that movie and it just didn't make any sense. What was it supposed to teach us? Them? It was stupid.

Cruise has always implied Kidman was at fault for the demise of the marriage ("Nicole knows exactly why it ended"). My theory is that her career was starting to trump his and he didn't like that. She was becoming independent of him and that was a no-no.

If there is one thing Thompson has right, it's this: "He wanted a beautiful, bright, obedient consort. She wanted a teacher." It sounds like a very familiar dilema. Oh well - he's Katie's problem now. Nicole is so much better off where she is.

Of course Nicole knew 'exactly why it ended'. Her contract was almost up and it wasn't going to be renewed.

Also there was a stipulation in the contract if the marriage hit 10 years she was due a large sum of money. The TOMFUCK ended the marriage just short of 10 years. Coincidence? I think not.

She's much more successful now than he is. And she's the one with the Oscar, not Creep Cadet Cruise. I'd say she came out of the arrangement pretty well.

I saw the movie and liked it. But I don't remember why. But I do remember liking it and thinking that those who didn't couldn't get into the pacing of it. And it was awfully stylized, which me likey.

I'm with A*O: The reason Eyes Wide Shut may have contributed to their downfall is because it made them realize there was no passion in the marriage. Cuz King Douche is a big ole gay.

Thats what I found interesting, she didn't shine as an actress when she was with midget, she was like his trophy. I'm sure that was what was required of her in the contract. When the marriage was over, Nicole Kidman became NICOLE KIDMAN:MOVIE STAR who was now free to wear high heels!
