"JUST days after checking out of rehab, cocaine shame supermodel Kate Moss has flown to a secret Caribbean hideaway where she is being comforted by her best pal Meg Mathews.
Kate, 31, has chosen Noel Gallagher's ex-wife Meg - a former user herself - as her "buddy" under the direction of the doctors who have been treating her.
And the catwalk beauty has also informed her junkie rocker lover Pete Doherty that she can have nothing to do with him while he is still taking drugs.
Her message to Doherty - in a series of heart-to-heart phone calls - has been: "If you want me back, give up the drugs for good."
Croydon-born Kate headed off to the Caribbean resort shortly after her release from the 30-day intensive treatment at the Meadows clinic in Arizona last week.
She had checked into the Meadows after the furore over pictures in our sister paper, the Daily Mirror, showing her snorting cocaine during a recording session with Doherty's band.
Kate is currently on a photoshoot on a stunning Caribbean island, where she has been joined by three-year-old daughter Lila Grace.
Kate is staying in a £1,500-a-night luxury villa with a pool and private butler on one of the most luxurious islands in the Caribbean, chosen specifically for its privacy and discretion. The Sunday Mirror is keeping its location secret.
And this weekend Meg and her daughter Anais, five were due to be joining Kate and Lila Grace.
Meg, one of Kate's oldest and trusted pals, has fought her own drug demons against cocaine and alcohol, but has now been clean for some time.
She wrote regular supportive letters to Kate while she was going through rehab in Arizona.
[...]
Kate has turned to Meg in her hour of needs as she re-adjusts to life in the outside world.
A pal said: "If anyone can help Kate get through this, it's Meg. She has always been a part of 'Moss's posse'. Meg wrote her some really supportive letters while she was in the clinic which Kate found comforting and helpful."'
"Meg made an entire career out of partying - a lot of the time with Kate. Drugs destroyed her marriage to Noel and nearly ruined her too. She hit rock bottom, but got herself out. She's a wonderful mother and a good friend to Kate. Their little girls get on really well together and Kate is convinced that spending time with Meg is just what she needs."
Kate went through her £20,000 drug rehabilitation programme at the Meadows clinic on the advice of fellow supermodel Elle McPherson, who was treated there for depression in 2003.
As part of the "12-Step Programme", patients are instructed to make sure they stay clear of drug addicts when they leave the Level I Psychiatric Acute Hospital. And Meg is ensuring she will be there for Kate during the first difficult days back on the "outside".
Kate's other major decision - as she vows to stay clean, to be a good mother to Lila Grace and to rescue her career - has been to tell Doherty that she cannot see him.
Doherty, a self-confessed heroin and crack addict, has repeatedly failed to cure his evils. And Kate has told him that, until he has, he cannot be part of her life.
A source said: "Kate adores Pete, but she is serious about kicking cocaine. That means adhering to the instructions of doctors. Being in the presence of drug addicts is the worst possible thing for her at this time." Kate's family and her ex-partner Jefferson Hack - father of Lila Grace - are also thought to be keen to keep her away from Doherty.
The source added: "The best way for Kate to avoid temptation is not to see Pete anymore."
That's why reformed Meg is now considered the ideal person to give Kate advice.
Babyshambles frontman Doherty will not simply disappear, however, and has declared his undying love for the supermodel in a string of phone calls since Kate left the clinic.
Doherty told the Sunday Mirror last night: "A lot of people are against us. I'm not saying who. It does my head in, being in love. But I'm still in love. Once you're in love, you're in love - whether you like it or not. And unfortunately, I am." Kate was said to be "devastated" after she was secretly filmed snorting cocaine in a studio in North London. That was followed by allegations that she had a £200-a-day coke habit, and had drug-fuelled lesbian threesomes with actresses Sadie Frost and Davinia Taylor. She was also reported to have taken cocaine while in Barcelonas for a charity dinner for Nelson Mandela's Children's Fund and to have allegedly worked her way through a "fist-sized" mound of cocaine with fellow model, Naomi Campbell.
Kate lost millions of pounds worth of contracts when top fashion houses Chanel, Burberry and H&M decided to ditch her. She later issued an apology, saying she took "full responsibility" for her actions, but was distraught over claims she could face a social services investigation by Westminster Council into whether she is fit to be a parent. At the same time, she could be interviewed by police on her return to London. A file would then be passed to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether charges should be brought.
But Kate has no plans to return to Britain until December. She has several modelling assignments lined up in Los Angeles, New York and Paris over the next six weeks.
Last week, it was even reported that she intends to quit Britain for good to live full-time in the United States, though the supermodel, who is worth £30million, was also said to be keen to keep on her homes in North London and Gloucestershire.
Kate clearly has a lot to think about during her time on the island..."
