I just checked my copy of Japanese for Everybody.
The symbol is the verb for "to live," "to be born" or
"to sprout and grow". I think it's pronounced "ee-key-ru."
It may have a different meaning in China.

My favorite part of the internet is the mouse. The part I could do without is live access to human beings.
The red symbol looks like it's drawn with zinc cream, which makes me notice how tanned she is, which makes me imagine her asleep tanning and someone drawing it on her back...
Wouldn't they just...dim the lights and use a slide projector
to throw the image onto her back? And that's assuming they
didn't just add the image in PS.
