Default Christopher Walken to join cast of "Hairspray"

Christopher Walken has signed up for musical movie 'Hairspray'.

The 'Stepford Wives' actor will replace 'Moulin Rouge' actor Jim Broadbent as Wilbur Turnblad in the remake of the cult 1988 film, according to Variety magazine.

John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer and 'X-Men' star James Marsden have also signed up for the remake, which is due to start shooting in Toronto next month.

As husband to Travolta's Edna, Walken will perform a duet of the musical love song 'Timeless To Me'.

The original movie - which starred transvestite icon, Divine - made a household name out of its star, chat show host Ricki Lake.

Walken is no stranger to singing and dancing. He began his career in the chorus line of Broadway musical 'Baker Street' in 1965.

The 63-year-old won an MTV Video Music Award for his dance moves in Fatboy Slim's music video 'Weapon Of Choice'.

Why are they remaking a movie that is less than 20 years old and was a pretty successful cult-like hit on it's own??? I just don't get it. Are there absolutely no more original ideas out there? Does John Waters have anything to do with this re-make?
