i'm glad. i *think* writing a book requires a little more time and effort than shooting a few movies a year.

She's the wealthiest woman in England, besides the Queen.

Howard freaking Stern?!? Ugh!!! And who's Dick Wolf? *looks him up on google* Oh, him. Seriously, tenth best-paid celebrity??
Anyway, good for Rowling. If the stories are true she was completely broke when she started writing- I like to think that sometimes all it takes is a good idea.

^exactly - I love stories of these down on their luck single mothers bust their ass and finally make some money! ie JK Rowlling and Erin Brockovich.

She should earn more. She's probably done more for children's reading habits than all other authors combined. My 8 year old nephew has read each of her 6 books twice. She's an amazing talent and deserves every last penny.

Re: J.K. Rowling earns more than Hollywood stars
I love JK Rowling! Me and my little family are total Harry Potter addicts! The only drawback is that my 3 yr old loves the movies but when Potter 5 came out, she spent weeks saying "What the Bloody Hell was that?" whenever anything happened.
For what she created and what she has done for children's literature, she deserves every red cent.
Plus, anyone ever notice how much her new husband looks like a grown-up Harry Potter? just asking

Oh, I think she's earning well enough already. But you're definitely right, she has kicked off a new trend, getting it back into kids' heads that reading can be cool. There are so many awesome children's books around now, which I don't think would have had a single chance to get published if it weren't for Harry Potter.
Has anyone had a look at her website (easier to navigate in 'text only' mode)? I love the 'rumors' (rumors about her books) 'rubbish bin' (rumors about herself) sections- some of her replies are laugh-out-loud funny (I read them when I was at work a while back and I got lots of funny looks from my co-workers... after all, my customers don't usually make me laugh).
