'La Bamba' Actor Not Charged After Domestic Violence Arrest

Aug. 11, 2006 — Lou Diamond Phillips, the actor best known for his role as '50s teen idol Ritchie Valens in "La Bamba," was released on his own recognizance and without criminal charges, after police arrested him at his Los Angeles home for alleged domestic violence.
"It was all a misunderstanding," said a spokesman for the 44-year-old actor.
Earlier in the afternoon, Phillips was held at the Devonshire Community Police Station.
Police had been called to Phillips' home at 2 a.m. and found the actor and his live-in girlfriend in an argument.
"The argument escalated into violence," LAPD spokeswoman Martha Garcia said.
At midday, bail had been set at $50,000. But later in the afternoon, he was released.
Garcia said that Phillips would meet with city attornies at a later date in regard to the incident, but would not comment further.
The actor has recently appeared in the TV police drama "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "24" as well as such films as "Courage Under Fire," and "The Young Guns" franchise.
Phillips has three daughters with his second wife, makeup artist Kelly Phillips. Their 11-year marriage ended in divorce in February 2005. He was previously married to Julie Cypher.

I'm totally dissapointed in him, didn't see this coming...
I felt sorry for him after his ex wife turned lesbian and left him. (<--not sure if it was because of him or she simply decided to come outta closet...I don't mean to offend anyone by this comment).

Cypher left him for Melissa Etheridge, but I believe that also hit the skids after they had a child together fathered by Stephen Stills. Phillips had/has a drinking problem.

I think you mean David Crosby. And I think they had two kids.

I do remember when they revealed that David Crosby was the sperm donor. I guess it was a big shock to people.

sure would have opted for a kid by lou! haven't seen him in a longtime but he is (or was?) a good-looking man.
kinda dissapointes me that he was arrested for alleged domestic violence!

I knew his wife, Kelly Preston (not John Travolta's wife obviously). She grew up a town away from me in NJ and we summered down the shore at the same beach where we were briefly friends, I was better friends with her step sister. She was gorgeous, fun, wild. She became a model and later posed in Pent House under an alias...I can't imagine her taking his abuse, at least I hope not.

ETA: She and LDP had a set of twins and I think a 3rd child. They were married for about 10 years and divorced a few years ago.
