Brad Pitt holds press conference in New Orleans
Pitt Holds Press Conference in New Orleans
By WENN| Saturday, July 15, 2006
HOLLYWOOD - Brad Pitt left new baby Shiloh Nouvel and girlfriend Angelina Jolie behind in California Friday to announce the finalists in a design contest he is sponsoring in New Orleans.
In April the Troy star came up with the idea to help rebuild the city after Hurricane Katrina and teamed with environmental group Global Green USA to sponsor a design competition.
The judges are seeking submissions for environmentally friendly buildings, with the ultimate winner to be named in August.
Pitt said he was inspired to create the project after watching coverage of the disaster saying, "Just witnessing the devastation and feeling like very little was being done and you wanted to help out..."
"It's a bit shocking, it's a bit disturbing. The people have not received the (relief) money yet and that's the fact.
"It's a daunting job, but we'll start one building at a time."

Re: Brad Pitt holds press conference in New Orleans
Pittshit isn't funding jackshit!!!! He put up a couple of bucks as a prize for the winner of the "competition" and that's all. The Green outfit is behind the so called project because that's their thing. Pittshit is just the front man for the whole thing, just a "big name star" to get people to pay attention.
This "big name star" is the same one who said that we should all stop giving to the Katrina fund and give thast money to Africia because it was soooooo much more important than our own home country and it's people who were without everything they had worked their whole lives to obtain. His own country people weren't important enough to get his sympathy, even though whole families, jobs, the places those jobs had been, the whole town had been devasted!!! He didn't care that his own countrymen were dying because no food, water, or shelter was available to them. He didn't care that those people had no way of earning money to even try to rebuild a life after losing so much! He didn't give a damn that disease was going to kill more of them because basic sanitation was not available to keep things from getting a foothold in the scum and wreckage that was left in the aftermath.
I know people who were down there helping to do cleanup months later and told us how horrible things still were there. He couldn't believe how bad things are now a year later, but he couldn't even be bothered to get an idea of what he was talking about back then!!! I don't need something like him to come on scene a year after the fact to give me an idea of what needs to be done to help!!! He didn't care a whit then, and I highly doubt that he cares now. The only thing that motivates him is PR!!!!!!!!!! And he has shown that he will use anybody and anything to try to make himself look good!!!

Re: Brad Pitt holds press conference in New Orleans
My husband was part of the National Guard from Arkansas that was sent to help out. He busted his balls for 6 weeks looking for bodies, helping evacuees, taking food to those that needed it, condemned houses and a bunch of other stuff. What gets me is how a celebrity can say that people need help and they help them monetarily. Why not try to give the gift of yourself and help clean up this mess instead of waving your cash and relying on someone else to do the job.

Re: Brad Pitt holds press conference in New Orleans
Prince Charles started this up in October, sending a design team and making a donation. Apparently he doesn't feel the need to have press conferences to blow his own horn.

Prince Charles donates to help rebuild Mississippi
Written by Deborah Zabarenko, Reuters
Thursday, 03 November 2005
Prince Charles, whose passion for architecture won him a $25,000 (14,117 pounds) prize on Thursday, said he planned to donate the money to help rebuild communities in hurricane-ravaged Mississippi.
"My wife and I were utterly horrified to see the terrible scenes of destruction wrought by the hurricane across New Orleans and the surrounding area," Charles told a gathering at the National Building Museum, where he was accompanied by his wife, Camilla.
"Tomorrow we will have the opportunity to meet the brave and resilient people trying to rebuild their lives and to pay tribute to the astonishing efforts of the emergency workers," Charles said. "I only hope that my foundation can play a small part in the work that is now under way to begin reconstruction."
The prince said the prize money would go to his Foundation for the Built Environment. He said the foundation sent a design team to Mississippi last month and had produced designs to help rebuild nine towns on the Gulf Coast.
Officials at the building museum, a cavernous space built in 1881 as a place to administer U.S. Civil War pensions, gave the prince the Vincent Scully Prize, recognizing his contributions to architecture and urban design.
Charles has been a vocal critic of architecture built after World War Two and an advocate for a return to traditionalism and buildings that fit in with their context. Two exhibits at the museum -- one on traditionalist architecture and another celebrating the prince's School of Traditional Arts in London -- open this week.

Still, money can buy someone else to do the work -- it's a lot better than nothing. Not everybody has to join the National Guard to make a contribution. Everybody contributes in their own way.

Re: Brad Pitt holds press conference in New Orleans
Eh, where was he a year ago? Oh, that's right. He was in a jungle with Angelina perfecting his animal mating calls. How in the hell could I have forgotten. What a tool.
Kari, I realized something after reading this board this weekend. I might just have to start giving Angie a bit of respect with her turn around. I might even say most of us have done something in our early 20s that we'd like to forget and I'll therefore cut her some slack. Then it dawned on me. The real reason I still can't stand her is because of this tool. If she dumped Brad the Cad, I might just have to defend her every once in a great while. I know that'll make you happy.

Re: Brad Pitt holds press conference in New Orleans
How funny that this is the first I have heard about "Brad the Humanitarian" When not used in conjunction with Jolie. Talk about a fake, he wasn't doing all of this when he was with Jennifer...

Re: Brad Pitt holds press conference in New Orleans
He did sign up for One Voice, he was contributing in United Negro College Fund, he was involved in Environmental Issues, and with Bono and his poverty issues all before Angelina. But it's funny cuz suddently he is called humantarian although i don't see the difference between now and them, i still don't see him as an activist as the media ought him to be.

Re: Brad Pitt holds press conference in New Orleans
Since when is contributing to the United Negro College Fund being a humanitarian? I give all my shit to Goodwill, is that the same? He may have 'said' or was 'concerned' about things before Angelina, but are you really saying that he was involved in Humanitarian Efforts? Not by a mile.

Re: Brad Pitt holds press conference in New Orleans
I don't know why you picked on 'UNCF' and ignored the others?*shrugs*
Anyway I think i said i don't see him as a humantarian, but since when narrating a program about medicine or plan green buildings is called a humantarian? What does Brad do now that makes him a humantarian? I'm serious what did he do?

Exactly he had ALWAYS been involved in those kind of projects but i would not call him a humantarian for them. He needs to be more activist in order to deserve the title IMO. LOL, i was not touchy if you read my posts carefully i was agreeing with you (apart from the whole monkey faced thingy)
