TORONTO (CP) - Chart-topper Nelly Furtado is bringing her groovy new style to Canadian Idol.
The sexy music star will coach Idol wannabes on the show's first Top 10 episode this Monday. Furtado is just one of a several "all-star" guests booked to appear on the popular singing contest this season, CTV said Wednesday in a release. Others include singer/songwriters Cyndi Lauper and Chantal Kreviazuk and platinum-selling country artist Martina McBride. Also booked is former Styx singer Dennis DeYoung and former Supertramp front man Roger Hodgson.
Contestants vying for the coveted singing title were whittled down to 10 during an emotional results show Wednesday night.
The final lineup ranged in age from 16-year-old singer Craig Sharpe of Newfoundland and Labrador to 28-year-old Rob James of Winnipeg, who last year would have been too old to make the cut.
Producers bumped up the age limit by two years this season to allow for a more diverse group.
When the 3.3 million votes were tallied, 16-year-old Ashley Coles, of Caledonia, Ont., learned she didn't make the shortlist.
"I wish you the best of luck," Coles told the remaining contestants while suppressing tears.
Winnipegger Keith Macpherson, 27, was also cut, but said he was pleased overall with the experience.
"I feel great," said Macpherson. "The whole purpose of this for me was really connecting with the country and I just feel really lucky to be part of this show."
The remaining contenders will perform live on Monday, in a special 90-minute episode featuring an appearance by Furtado, who emerged this year with a sexier image and an album of party songs.
Furtado will be seen in taped segments providing advice to the Top 10 competitors and treating the Idols to an acoustic performance of her hit song Promiscuous.
She will also appear on Tuesday's results show.
