Johnny Depp is to be presented with the Freedom of Paris. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star has lived in France with his partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children - Lily Rose, seven, and Jack, four - for several years, with Depp admitting he prefers his "simpler" life in France compared to the craziness of Hollywood.
The 43-year-old actor will be presented with the honor before the French premiere of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel, "Dead Man's Chest", in Paris Thursday night. A city official said: "The freedom is given only to those who demonstrate devotion to Paris, so Johnny is thrilled."
Depp has previously admitted he was happy to turn his back on the US, saying: "America is dumb, is something like a dumb puppy that has big teeth - that can bite and hurt you, aggressive." The actor met French star Vanessa while filming "The Ninth Gate" in 1998.

Just because he will bang that gap-toothed skank does not mean he loves her country!

He loves the country but hasn't bothered to learn the language after 7 or so years? Yep, he totally deserves it.

That is just ridiculous, more even considering he doesn't live in Paris, but in the south of France...

Yeah, if I were from PARIS, I would be suing for defamation of character. I will forever be waiting for the name HILTON to follow any mention of PARIS. Screwed up my total innocence.

.. so he's learning the language and can converse with his children..
sounds like he's trying at least, not exactly the situation one would expect if he didn't know the language after 7 years living there.

He is just too "cool" for America. What an idiot. He does the same stupid "fake" accent thing that Madonna does in interviews sometimes.....
And don't even get me started on his crack whore looking wife with unfortunate teeth.

eh, i can't blame him for not wanting to live in the US these days.
The accent thing can be put on or not.. I remember goin down to the South for a couple weeks and I came back to Canada with the start of a twang.\
Madge, however, is a tool cuz her little accent is fake because it sounds nothing like a brit accent

To me he just seems to be a put on. Like he tries to be "dark" and strange. Come on guy, you didn't act like that in your 21 jump street days....
I am also not impressed with his acting, to me Captain Sparrow and Willy Wonka are the same character...

Eh whatever. If a Mexican/Italian/Chinese person comes here and lives for 7 years without knowing the language, we're all rightfully irritated. He's just now learning a few words so he doesn't look like a tool in front of his kids. How about just not being a tool and learing the damn language where you CHOOSE to live instead.
