TATUM O'NEAL: MY FATHER HATES ME

Tatum O'Neal claims her father hated her for winning an Oscar.

The actress won the prestigious accolade aged just ten when she supported her dad, actor Ryan O'Neal, in 1973's "Paper Moon."

But rather than praise her for her achievement, Tatum insists her father took out his own career frustrations on her.

Tatum, 42, confessed to Britain's Stella magazine: "Things with my dad were pretty good until I won an Academy Award. He was really loving to me until I got more attention than he did. Then he hated me - literally hated me. Forever!"

Tatum later married US tennis star John McEnroe, who she had three children with, in 1986 and battled heroin addiction in the wake of their eventual split in 1992.

The actress blames her father's rejection for her problems in adulthood. She said: "I'm not going to get into the psychology of it, but I feel as women it is our responsibility to get away from men like that. I didn't choose my father, but I chose to leave home."

Her father is one of the biggest assholes in Hollywood. I know that doesn't excuse a lot of the mistakes that Tatum made in her life, but he is just wicked and his kids never even had a chance for any sort of normal upbringing. Her mom, an actress if I remember, was an alcoholic/drug addict too so the kids went to live with Ryan after she died.

All his children - including Redmond (sp?) with Farrah, are fucked up. (When he was young, he was kicked out of almost every private school here in L.A...)

Very sad story, very sad family...

This is an old story. Still, it's sad when a father rejects a child. I'm not sure that "getting over it" is so easy for everyone - obviously not for Tatum.

Ryan O'Neal has always been and always will be a major *ss-wipe.

Didn't he also used to smack his ex-wives and girlfriends (Farrah Fawcett) around?

I think Ryan was physical with Farrah -he used to be a boxer in his youth and has a legendary temper-

Tatum had a rough life and she's a tough cookie...you can tell she's 'rough around the edges' but I feel bad for her in a way. It must be tough growing up without a father, even more so when you're dad's actually around and just an asshole. Then she married another asshole John McEnroe who was really abusive! I always thought Tatum was really pretty, even now.

Screw all of them Tatum--live your life.
