Actor STEPHEN BALDWIN has criticised BONO's crusade against poverty in Africa, insisting the U2 singer should preach Christianity instead. THE USUAL SUSPECTS actor, who is a born-again Christian, is convinced the world can only heal itself by following the teachings of JESUS CHRIST. The 40-year-old writes of Bono in his upcoming autobiography THE UNUSUAL SUSPECT: MY CALLING TO THE NEW HARDCORE MOVEMENT OF FAITH, "You would do far more good if you just preached the gospel of Jesus rather than trying to get rid of Third World debt relief."

I don't believe in helping the 3rd world poor by giving them food and medicine attached to the carrot that is Christianity. True Chrisitianity would help them regardless of whether they adopted the faith or not. That said, I have mixed feelings about trying to help those abroad since I feel so much of the 'help' ultimately goes to waste. Issues like hunger and lack of medical care go beyond just having a need for food and medicine.....the governments of these countries are just so damn corrupted. It seems the money could be better spent helping some indigent Americans go to college where the assistance would have some kind of tangible impact. It seems great to help a starving kid in africa grow up by giving them food, but what happens when that kid grows up to have 3-6 kids they can't afford and their kids are starring in the CCF commercial when you have to refilm it 20 yrs from now?

If Baldwin knew anything about Jesus' teachings, he would know that Jesus said to 'take care of the poor'. There is a mission close to where I live that feeds and houses the homeless and spreads the gospel to them as well. But they take care of the physical needs first, because it's hard to convince a hungry person that God loves them unless somebody is willing to show God's love instead of just talking about it.
