Burberry takes Kate Moss back for new campaign
Quote:
It is a defiant message to those who wrote off her modelling career after the cocaine allegations.
Staring directly at the camera, Kate Moss appears to revel in the very public endorsement of yet another major fashion house.
This time it is Burberry which has welcomed her back, only nine months after seemingly dumping her when pictures showed her apparently snorting cocaine.
But now the shamed model is the focus of Burberry's autumn/winter campaign, launched yesterday.
Wearing a Sixties-style lace coat, she is photographed on a rooftop by Mario Testino along with model Stella Tennant and her daughter Jasmine and Bryan Ferry's sons Otis and Isaac. [photo http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv..._page_id=1773]
Burberry was one of the companies which distanced itself from Miss Moss after the pictures of her alleged drug-taking emerged in September.
The firm cancelled a planned 'project' with Miss Moss - joining the likes of Roberto Cavalli, Rimmel and H&M - and giant posters of the supermodel at Burberry's flagship Knightsbridge shop were removed.
There were predictions that her career was doomed, but Miss Moss eventually apologised and spent a month in rehab.
Her return to the fold caps a spectacular six months for the 32-year-old which has seen her escape prosecution and earn more than £10million.
Only weeks after the drugs scandal broke, Burberry insisted reports that it had dumped Miss Moss were "nonsense", saying the model remained "part of the Burberry family". The first public signs of her return came in February when she took a front seat at a Burberry show.
But her place at the centre of yesterday's campaign launch represents the clearest possible signal that all is forgiven.
Anti- drugs campaigners have condemned the haste with which fashion companies have brought her back.
Peter Stoker, director of the Drug Prevention Alliance, said: "Burberry could have publicly said that what Kate Moss did had influenced an awful lot of people and she should straighten up her act, whereas instead they're trivialising the impact of drug use."
Burberry is by no means alone. A one-year contract with Nikon will earn Miss Moss £1.5million, on top of a £500,000 deal with Calvin Klein.
In addition, contracts with the likes of Virgin Mobile and Stella McCartney have more than doubledher earnings since before the drugs furore. A £250,000 investigation into her alleged cocaine abuse ended in farce this month with the news that she would not be charged because police could not prove what drug it was.
But a leading Crown Prosecution Service lawyer said the footage was an 'absolutely clear indication' that she had been using drugs and providing them to others.

I'm strangely happy for Kate for getting away with it, I can't even explain why. Except that the fashion industry scapegoating her reeked of hypocrisy.

^^ I agree. I've always loved Kate Moss and thought it was ridiculous to single her out like they did.

After all that hoopla about her losing her contracts after the scandal, she's got Calvin Klien, Burberry, Virgin Mobile, millions of dollars worth. Kate's doing fine.

I'm also pleased by this. She's a model I enjoy seeing--she actually has a personality. Anyway, they probably couldn't find anyone to replace her that wasn't doing coke, too.
