Actor John Cusack has asked a judge to issue a restraining order against a woman who he says has been stalking him. The High Fidelity star filed papers on Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The 31-year-old claims Emily Leatherman has been "showing unusual interest (in him) by stalking, throwing long letters of interest over my fence in bags with rocks and screwdrivers inside, making unannounced visits to offices of people I work with in an attempt to meet with me and listing my address as her own during a recent arrest. Mail addressed to her has been arriving at my residence without my permission. I have never met this person." The documents also say Leatherman "threatens to commit acts of violence against herself if I do not help her." According to court papers, Leatherman is a transient with no known address, according to website TMZ.com.

Ha! Just what I was thinking. Someone's been watching too many John Cusack movies. I love the guy too, but not enough to act like a character in his movies.

Oh you'd be amazed at what a manic, devoted female following he has. He was in my hometown filming a movie a few years back and there were throngs of women camping out for several hours in cold weather waiting to get a glimpse of him, and screaming. Never knew he had such a strong fan base. And he does get freaked out about overbearing fans......from all accounts he tries to live a normal life so if someone is doing this stuff, it sounds totally believable that he would get a restraining order.

Mmmmm, John Cusack. If I was an obsessive psychopath, I would definitely stalk him!

Oh, I love Robert Downey Jr too, he is such an amazing actor, and he's hot. You sound like you are attracted to the dark guys, both in looks and in personality. Me too.

why would you need to be trying to live a normal life to get freaked out by this stuff and get a restraining order? even if he was britany spears this is serious stalking. i happen to adore john cusack too. he's so cute and quiet!

Leapinglillies, sorry if you took my post as an insult to Cusack. I happen to like him. What I meant was he is not into the celeb thing and fans. He's not like George Clooney or others who absolutely bask in the adoration of fans and will walk over to a group of screaming fans & sign autographs & mingle for an hour. He likes to think of himself as an actor, not a celebrity (kind of like Jodie Foster). Anyway, he will shy away from fans that show even a little bit of fanmania, like squealing or screaming. Saw it with my own eyes, women screaming, and him sneaking out the back and taking off in the SUV without greeting anyone. I truly believe that stuff scares him.
After reading the article it's definitely a nutcase stalker. Again, I never meant this as an insult again him.
Sounds like this lunatic is bothering him in LA. He also has a home in Chicago. He loves Chicago because people pretty much leave him alone there. It's no big deal because the entire Cusack family still lives in Chicago and the suburbs. After this it wouldn't be a surprise if he just stays at his Chicago residence for awhile. Poor guy.

Update:
John Cusack wins restraining order
Thursday, 20th July 2006, 11:56
LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) -
John Cusack has won a restraining order against an obsessed fan.
The 'High Fidelity' actor - who did not attend the court hearing in California - filed a lawsuit against 31-year-old Emily Leatherman last month, saying she demonstrated an "unusual interest" in him.
The 40-year-old actor claimed she "threatened to commit violence against herself" if the actor did not help her.
During her 18-month stalking campaign, homeless Letherman reportedly bombarded the actor with letters and listed his home address as hers.
Cusack's court statement read: "The woman is showing unusual interest by stalking, throwing long letters of interest over my fence in bags with rocks and screwdrivers inside, making unannounced visits to offices of people I work with in an attempt to meet with me and listing my address as her own during a recent arrest."
Leatherman has been ordered to stay at least 500 feet from Cusack, his home, workplace, car and any company or office where he does business.

More twists:
Woman granted court order against Cusack
LOS ANGELES - A woman John Cusack claims is stalking him has taken out a court order barring the actor from coming near her.
Cusack was granted a temporary restraining order Tuesday stipulating that Emily Leatherman, 31, stay at least 500 feet away from him, his home, his work, his car and any company or office where he does business.
After the 40-year-old actor sought the order last month, Leatherman made a similar request, which was granted by a Superior Court judge on July 14 pending an August hearing.
In court papers, Cusack said Leatherman "is showing unusual interest by stalking, throwing long letters of interest over my fence in bags with rocks and screwdrivers inside, making unannounced visits to offices of people I work with in an attempt to meet with me and listing my address as her own during a recent arrest."
Leatherman said she only sent Cusack two letters. She said they were to request that he use his celebrity status to urge police to investigate her allegations that she was sexually assaulted by several men in 2001. She said police have refused to take a report.
