Last updated: Friday, June 23, 2006 BRITNEY'S ICE CRAVING
Britney Spears has developed a pregnancy craving for ice.
The singer, who is expecting her second child with husband Kevin Federline, says she can't stop crunching ice cubes since conceiving again."
She said: "I think I have elephant teeth or something. I love it."
While Britney was pregnant with first child Sean Preston, Kevin revealed his spouse developed the classic craving of pickles mixed with ice cream.
The "Toxic" singer allegedly gained a massive 51 pounds when she was expecting her son.
Britney's weight ballooned from an estimated 119lbs to a massive 170lbs and the pop superstar was repeatedly spotted gorging on fried chicken and calorific milkshakes in the final stages of her pregnancy.
The now 25-year-old star was a regular at popular Los Angeles fast food restaurant Koo Koo Roo and developed a taste for the eatery's specialty "chillatos" - an ice-cream loaded shake.

I have always heard that the craving to crunch ice is due to low iron or enemia. I love chewing ice and do battle enemia. I do recall an ex though who told me chewing ice was a sign of sexual frustration and I needed to get more!

^^That's true about it being a sign of iron deficiency. Ice chewing is also a form of pica, which is most commonly associated with eating clay. It's hell on the teeth, though.

I know someone who ate dirt or red sand when pregnant.........well it was actually me.......my mouth waters at the thought of it even to this day. Another sign of iron defiency I think. Have never eaten meat, not even fish or tuna or anything that had eyes and a mouth. God Id love some sand right now.

^^I have a friend with a similar thing - she likes paper. Go figure. If Brit is only eating fast food & other crap then more & likely she's not getting the nutrients she needs. I find the way she announces things so childlike. I can picture her talking about the elephant teeth - y'all!

I didn't know that about the iron deficiency/ice chewing connection. I'm a compulsive ice cruncher and have been for years. I wonder if I should get my blood checked?

I would. I was surprised to find my iron levels were so low. Now I take a script instead of the over the counter stuff. It is more gentle to my digestive system. I have so much more energy and feel great.

Thanks for the tip, sluce. I'll probably get myself checked out, though if I am iron deficient, I must've been for years and not known it.

The pica thing is weird, but true. I had an aunt that would eat dirt when she was pregnant...
I have always been told that eating ice was a sign of low iron. I think I am just addicted to it...I eat ice constantly....

Hey, at least ice has no calories! But knowing Brit that'll probably translate into scarfing down several sugary icee-type, 500 calorie snowcones a day.

I was anemic and I never craved ice cubes or dirt. Wow. I had heard of the dirt thing but not ice cubes. My periodontist that is something you should not do. Very bad.
And sand? That has got to be HELL on the old poop shoot.

I saw a mongolian girl on the news who had a habit of eating clay/dirt. She esp liked the yellow soft rock. She ate 2 lb of that stuff everyday and she was getting herself checked out at a hospital in China. They found nothing wrong with her brain or stomach and she was actually healthy. The news footage showed her munching on it in her hospital bed...
