Scarlett Pomers' Brave Battle
"Reba" actress SCARLETT POMERS, 17, recently made headlines for her battle with anorexia, now the TV star is getting noticed at one of Teen People's "20 Teens Who Will Change The World."
Scarlett, who reached a shocking 73 pounds at the height of her eating disorder, is currently in therapy and now in recovery after two months of care at an inpatient facility. She is being honored by the magazine for her work as ambassador for NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association) and is in the process of launching Arch Angels, an organization that will raise money for people who can't afford treatment for their eating disorders.
"There are girls who can't get help because their insurance companies say they're not sick enough," she tells the magazine, on newsstands March 3. "It's a mental illness and unless you get help right away, it will take over your life."
Scarlett's "Reba" castmates have been more than supportive of her recuperation. "The show will always be here for her," REBA McENTIRE told ET, who was recently on the set for their recent 100th anniversary episode.
Scarlett hasn't been seen on the series this season, but her role as Reba's youngest daughter Kyra is in no jeopardy of being recast.
"The most important thing is for her health to get back to normal," Reba said. "We're waiting for her, but the No. 1 thing is for her to get healthy and to come back."
