Quote:
Geri Halliwell was so desperate to lose her post-baby weight she started dieting while she was pregnant.
The singer - who has admitted to suffering from eating disorders in the past - lost an amazing 35 pounds in just four weeks following the birth of Bluebell Madonna.
Geri got her figure back so quickly because she ate sensibly during the final stages of the pregnancy, it has been claimed.
A friend revealed to Britain's Closer magazine: "She was careful not to eat for two all the way through her pregnancy, and for at least the last month she was following a low-carb, high-protein diet."
The former Spice Girl reportedly turned to former bandmate Victoria Beckham for advice about shifting the pounds, and is now said to be a dress size smaller than she was before the pregnancy.

Not that I'm defending her but it is possible that she might have had gestational diabetes or at least a boderline case of it. That would require controlling her carbs. They test for it around 28 weeks, so if one comes up positive, it means careful meal-planning for the last trimester. I had it with my kids and with my last, I was on a 1800 calorie a day plan from 29 weeks on. My obgyn was freakin' because I was gaining no weight, while the perionatologist (sp?) was happy because the baby was not gaining weight too quickly at birth, my last weighed 8+lbs. Like Gerri, I ended up weighing less after the pregnancy than before.

^Ditto. I was 1800 cal/day from 17 weeks on because of gestational diabetes. I only gained 24 pounds while pregnant. Because I stuck to the low-carb, high protein diet, my daughter was 6 lbs and completely healthy. By 4 weeks post partum, I had lost 30 pounds.

A coworker of mine had gestational diabetes and had to watch what (and when) she ate for the entire last 3 months. Later said the good thing about it was that it kept her from gaining an enormous amount of weight! I think she gained a little over 30# total. More than enough.

Ok, this poor girl's name is Bluebell Madonna, do you have to add insult to injurty Geri by malnourishing her while still in the womb?? Now her name is Bluebell Madonna and she may be kind of slow to boot.

This article is vague on the details, but I don't see how "eating sensibly" translates to "starving her baby". The reality is that a lot of pregnant women eat much larger quantities than the calories required for...er, growing the thingathingy. It sounds like her baby was born healthy (healthy enough to be doing a rigorous yoga for babies routine anyway!), so what's the big?
