Kathy Griffin Feeling Burned by Ban
Quote:
BECK/SMITH HOLLYWOOD EXCLUSIVE
Kathy Griffin is unhappy to have found "I'm banned from every talk show, except the 'Today' show. I think this is pretty much unprecedented," says the comic, whose Bravo reality series, "My Life on the D-List," began its second season this month.
Griffin, who regularly takes fellow celebrities to task for their foibles, adds, "I
don't think this would happen if I was a guy. You don't see Jon Stewart being banned from political shows for what he says about politicians. In fact, it's just the opposite."
But celebrity mocking by Kathy is evidently a serious offense. According to her, she's become persona non grata with "Leno, Letterman, Conan, Regis and Kelly, 'The View' and Ellen.
With Leno, there was an upset last season when I showed something he said that made me cry. That was a big controversy.
"Ellen -- that one really makes me sad. Their feeling is, 'We can't have you out here trashing celebrities because our show is friendlier than that.'
'The View' -- I have higher hopes when Rosie O'Donnell comes aboard. I think we all know Star has gotta go," continues Griffin.
She points out, "I was on the 'Today' show a couple weeks ago, the same day Ann Coulter was on. She goes on and says that these 9/11 widows are a bunch of harpies who would have been divorced anyway. And then she gets booked everywhere. It's weird. But it was fun going on after her, because I got to say what a nut job she is."
Griffin considers the just-aired "Life on the D-List" episode in which she visited soldiers in Iraq the season's most touching. As far as the funniest episode, candidates include upcoming segments in which she hosts "the world's largest buffet" in Las Vegas, hangs out with the "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" fellows, and goes traveling with her parents. "My mom and dad are like the rock stars of season two," she says.

Re: Kathy Griffin Feeling Burned by Ban
Love this woman! Think she is absolutely hilarious. And she is always welcome on Howard Stern, which is how I know her (and from Suddenly Susan). Why she has been banned from these other shows is beyond me....just because she calls people out??? GOD, THATS TERRIBLE.
I saw her show 'My life on the D List' about the Leno show and Leno was just down right MEAN to her. Hes a jackass honestly. But, I've always thought that.
She's a good egg and deserves better. Shes talented. She rules honestly.

Griffin, 44, has famously had a lot of plastic surgery, and in full hair and makeup can sometimes look like a petite drag queen. In person, she looks softer and more natural. Although she often jokes about the way she looks, Griffin can be hurt when other people do, too. Last season, after Jay Leno teased that a shot of her posing with model Carmen Electra looked like a before-and-after photo, Griffin broke down in tears on the way home. "I was being a dumb girl," she says now. "Some days that stuff will roll right off my back, and other days it will totally crush me. I have no explanation for it. I wish I could be a guy."

With respect to the Leno thing, I think if she can dish it, she should be able to take it. I still love her though.

I think she makes a lot of valid points in that article. She tells it like it is. Natalie Maines caught shit for doing the same thing. People just don't like to hear the truth.

I always heard that Leno is an asshole behind the scenes...

Her way of making fun of people is different. What Leno said was a low blow. Kathy makes fun of celebrity hypocrisy mostly. I don't remember her ever calling someone ugly. I never heard her say anything so offensive that if I was one of the celebrities it would bother me very much. It just goes to show you what insecure egomaniacs they are. The only thing she has said that I thought maybe she shouldn't have was the joke about Dakota Fanning and rehab, but that was an ad lib.

Re: Kathy Griffin Feeling Burned by Ban
^^ Well her looks are obviously her insecurity. Leno made fun of it. She makes fun of other people's insecurities. I don't see the difference. I actually forgot about the Dakota thing....that was not at all cool of her. Kids should be off limits for that kind of thing.

Did Leno say it to her face? It is mean, but so is she.

She's so right about Anne Coulter, that bitch is on everything. Celebrities have no sense of humor and are so freaking self important. Go Kathy!

Re: Kathy Griffin Feeling Burned by Ban
I love Kathy and watch her show every week.
What Leno said was pretty nasty and I think what made it different is he said it to her face on national television. Kathy has said some things that are pretty outrageous (saying that Celine Dion's husband had raped her since he first met her at a young age springs to mind), but she wouldn't say that with Celine sitting there on the spot.
I'm not sure that makes it any better or worse, but it does feel different when someone says something spiteful to your face in front of a horde of people.

Re: Kathy Griffin Feeling Burned by Ban
A few years ago I saw Kathy on a late night show talking trash about what a phoney Portia De Rossi was. This was before the Ellen thing. It was quite stinging. I never looked at Portia the same after.

Re: Kathy Griffin Feeling Burned by Ban
I hate this, I agree it's because celebrities just don't like being called out on the stupid hypocritical things they say and do. It drives me nuts that no one has the balls to point out the obvious, but when someone like Kathy does it, she's blackballed. Ridiculous.
Kathy Griffin is damn funny--that Dakota Fanning thing was hilarious, how people could possibly take something that absurd seriously is beyond me.
