Mary J. Blige: Slang = Ignorance
Mary J Blige: Slang Is Ignorance, I Don't Want That Anymore
by Mitch Marconi
Jun 13, 2006
Soul singer and hip-hop artist Mary J Blige has realized that street talk is completely ignorant and very unattractive, so she is leaving her ebonics in the past, according to a published report. The artist confessed that she's embarrassed when she thinks of her use of slang, and wants to move on instead of fall behind.
She explains, "I used to talk with so much slang, but I know that is just ignorance."
"I don't want that to be a part of my life anymore"
You go, girl! If only other people could realize that.

Re: Mary J. Blige: Slang = Ignorance
Well, I hope all others follow in your footsteps. Songs that are almost entirely slang drive me crazy - they are so bad!

Re: Mary J. Blige: Slang = Ignorance
Many people don't realize that Mary J. could barely read when she started her singing career, and went to a "finishing" school of sorts to get her up to speed.
I think that slang is fine, as long as you understand the time and place. Slang is for your friends, or to keep people out of the loop. I'm glad she's becoming edumacated as welll...

Re: Mary J. Blige: Slang = Ignorance
I don't really like slang either. I try not use. At the same time she is an R&B singer and they use alot of slang.
It kind of reminds me of Alicia Keys. When Falling first came out I thought that she was so smart. Which she probably is but whenever she opens her mouth she sounds like a gangster (great for gangster rap not for R&B).

Re: Mary J. Blige: Slang = Ignorance
Hasn't Oprah (belch) taking Mary J on as her personal project? I got that impression when she was on the show several months back. Can't you just see Oprah rounding her up and lecturing her on slang?

Re: Mary J. Blige: Slang = Ignorance
Oh I have no idea what happened at Oprah's ball but all I've heard is that she used to smoke it a lot so she got the nick name MJ.

Re: Mary J. Blige: Slang = Ignorance
^^Yep, everytime she opens her mouth it's like her speech got stunted in the 2nd grade. Tina Knowles should really do something about that. It's like they tried to make Beyonce perfect in every way but, at some point they forgot about her speech. I hate it when they have her doing red carpet stuff, I always cringe. And sometimes she tries to use big words so that she would sound intelligent but, she just ends up sounding more uneducated.
