Prince Charles and Camilla not legally married?
Quote:
British royal PRINCE CHARLES and his second wife CAMILLA, DUCHESS OF CORNWALL may not be legally married.
New evidence in a newly-released government document showed that the prince was warned around the time of his divorce from DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES, that he could not lawfully remarry, according to British newspaper Daily Mail.
The uncovered writing made it clear that members of the British Royal Family could not get married in a register office and the Anglican church would have a 'moral obligation' to refuse uniting the two divorcees.
The Lord Chancellor, LORD FALCONER, allowed the pair to marry in April last year (05) despite being aware of this advice.
CHARLES MOSLEY, an expert on formal marriages and society events says, "This could be the trigger that brings about the passing of the throne to (PRINCE) WILLIAM. We have to know whether our King is legally married or not." A spokesperson for the royal family argues,
"We received advice from four different legal sources, all of whom agreed there was no bar to members of the Royal Family marrying in a civil ceremony. The main advice came from the Government."

Legal or no, I don't see why Charles should be allowed to be king while married to a divorcee when Edward VIII could not.

Unfortunately, politics doesn't learn from its mistakes! They've been sleeping together for like 30 years, they are married with or with the paper.

Getting married might take the fun out of the Pretend You're My Tampon game.

I'm so glad we don't have a Royal family. It's bad enough that we have Paris Hilton.

Re: Prince Charles and Camilla not legally married?
I think they should pass over Charles and give the throne to William.
I like this shite because it's fun to watch. "Diana's long, bony finger reaches from the grave" to evermore rap on this couple's loony parade. *ghost voice* oooo-ooooooo-oooooh!

I like Prince Charles with Camilla. I dont think he should ever have married Diana to begin with. They weren't really in love anyway.

Re: Prince Charles and Camilla not legally married?
The UK monarchy has been around for almost a thousand years. During that time there have been kings and queens who have been mad, bad, mad AND bad. There's been a few good ones too, including the current queen. If you are the heir to the throne because you happen to be the firstborn son or if there are no sons, the eldest daughter of the monarch, or because you are shunted sideways into the position of heir because the monarch dies childless, then your personality and how you conduct your private life is completely irrelevant. When Queen Elizabeth dies her eldest son will become King Charles III, and when HE dies his son will become King William V. That's how it works. If you disapprove of the monarch's lifestyle or behaviour that's too bad - you get what you're given and that's that. Unless you do what the French did and organise a national revolution and send the royals and all the aristos to the guillotine.
King Edward VIII abdicated because he was weak and stupid and completely pussywhipped. It was the fact that he put his personal life before his 'duty' that made the whole Abdication Crisis so traumatic for the great British public. I know it's hard for non-Brits to understand, but it's something deep in the British psyche I think. In fact, he did everyone a favour because by abdicating his brother then became King George VI whose daughter is our current queen.

Re: Prince Charles and Camilla not legally married?
So Edward could have done what wanted and told them all to get stuffed and they wouldn't have been able to do shit about it, eh. Sounds to me like he just wanted out of the responsibility.
