Superstar Mariah Carey battles against racism wherever she travels, because people forget she is mixed race.

The singer was born to an Irish-American mother and an African-American father.

She says, "I'm in a room a lot of times with only white people, and they forget and say things that are offensive - and I have to put them in check. And I'm sitting there and I'm thinking I'm either going to have to leave or I'm going to have to talk about it.

"After travelling the world, I think racism, or ignorance, is everywhere. It's in the US, Italy, France. Even in certain Latin American countries, where it's a very mixed society."

I know how she feels. I have been called nigger to my face several times and although I can handle my own physically and verbally it still manages to hurt everytime. That word is powerful.

If my African American friends are making fun of themselves, they use the word, and it is very okay in those situations. Or when they are telling stories of what happened at a club or something. I don't think it's okay to use the word towards a female, I also think it can be used among black males. That's MY thought.

But she won't be called a racist. Sick of it. This world is so multicultural yet it's always a white world when we refer to racism as if no other race utters a racist word. As a human race we should tolerate each other. How can we end racism with people like Mariah spewing racist crap? Did she not watch 'Crash'.

yeah...but my suggestion would be: don't hate. it's just wasted energy. time is better served in trying to understand the reason for her full-of-crapness and bringing understanding. if not to her, then amongst ourselves...besides, we will never fully understand what her experience is/has been. sadly, maybe she's felt the racism more from white america than from other groups, we'll just never know...and maybe that's why she says what she does.....although she does point out the other places she's seen racism alive and well...we'll never know.

OMG the world has probably tilted off of it's axis because I'm about to defend Mimi. She does say that even Latin countries show racism. It doesn't appear that she's singling out white people.
