Britney Spears Thwarts K-Fed's Attempt to Sell Pregnancy Scoop By Tina Sims
May 19, 2006 Many fans and pundits were certain that Britney Spears was pregnant long before she went on David Letterman and announced it to the world. But she wasn't even scheduled for a spot with Dave that night. So - the curious wanted to know - why then and why with such short notice?

Jefferson Reid points out Us Weekly's cover story that says K-Fed was trying to sell the scoop of Brit's pregnancy for cash.
Brit reportedly thwarted that effort with her appearance.
He details that as part of the mag's blowout story about the former pop star laying down the law to her would-be rapper hubby, they spill why Britney dropped the baby bomb on Letterman.

It seems K-Fed was in the midst of trying to "broker a lucrative deal to leak information to a news outlet about the pregnancy" until Britney scooped him on Dave.
She reportedly did so to show Kevin who's boss and to tighten the purse strings. The mag's source says Spears "is happy she just came out about the baby. Kevin didn't make any money on it, and I'm sure he is pissed."
The inevitable snarky comment - sounds like Brit could be singing a new tune: "Not a Divorcée, Not Yet Legally Separated."

This all just doesn't make sense to me. The guy is a major loser and it would seem that Britney has been coming around to this for some time (taking car away, putting him on an allowance, cutting the partying). Yet, here she is pregnant with a second child with the prick and trying to degrate her husband left, right and centre at the same time. It's when you're happily married that you plan for children. Not when you're trying to 'one up' your loser husband and doing everything in your power to let the public know you're smarter than him and he's a complete ass. What am I missing here? And why doesn't she just unleash him? It's all getting very embarrassing.

I think what you're missing is how Britney was raised. Her own momma used to denigrate Britney's father, who was well known in Tangipahoa parish as a good for nothing drunk. Yet Momma stayed married to the lush and had a few more kids. Britney is just repeating the same behavior her mother did first.

So wait a minute....Britney KNEW that her jackass husband was attempting to make money by scooping the story--SHE KNOWS THIS and yet doesn't see that this is a problem??? So she just one ups him, and life goes on???

Wouldn't he know he was going to be found out??? I mean, hello?? I DONT UNDERSTAND THESE PEOPLE AT ALL!!! What the hell is wrong with them seriously???

I truly don't get it....and never will.

I think one of the reasons she hasn't divorced him yet is because she's embarrassed.. she doesn't want to hear alll the public saying "We told you so!!" which will inevitably happen. Having to admit she's been wrong all along must be very difficult for Britney. She's on a power trip. She's trying to control Kevin, and the more she tries to control him (allowance, tightening the purse strings, laying down new laws as of late) the more he rebels and pulls away (haven't seen them in public together in weeks).

Her ego is so huge it will not allow her to admit to herself that a good for nothing LOSER like Kevin doesn't even want her. He clearly isn't in love with her and I don't believe ever was. She chose the biggest waste she could find because he might not leave her - he would be happy to be with the great Britney Spears. Someone at Britney's own level (Justin Timberlake) didn't want her, so she had to go lower.

Basically her massive ego of getting what she wants, being in control, and unwillingness to admit she was wrong is keeping her married to Kevin.

She should've just let him do it, so he could have the chance to make his OWN money. I don't see how her stopping him is "tightening the purse strings" when she is keeping him from making his own money and from mooching off her. Everyone knew she was already pregnant anyway.

WORD! Yet, for the sake of my child...err...children....I'd swallow my pride and get the hell out. Now! She has more than just herself to consider now. He's making a complete fool out of her. I don't know what she thinks she's proving. At one time, Britney really did have it all. Looks, personality, success.... So sad.....
