Britney Spears has been criticised by a leading dietician for feeding her baby son ice-cream.
The pregnant pop star recently revealed she uses the sweet treat to help the eight-month-old get to sleep.
She said: "He loves ice cream - it makes him sleep better."
But British diet expert Sarah Gosnay claims too much of the sugary snack can be bad for babies and is more likely to keep Sean Preston awake than send him to sleep.
She says: "Up until the age of five, children need some high calorie foods in their diet to help them grow but they also need balanced meals and to be set healthy patterns for the rest of their lives. What you eat as a child affects what you eat as an adult.
"Ice cream is high in saturated fat, the cholesterol-producing type of fat, as well as sugar, and should really be a treat food for a child.
"I don't like the sound of 'it makes him sleep better'. That sounds like he's having ice cream regularly in his diet, a habit that is going to be hard for Britney to change.
"Besides, if he is really having problems sleeping, giving him a high fat/sugar treat food before laying him down to sleep doesn't sound that helpful to me!"
Twitney's really in the running for "Mother of the Year" isn't she? Correct me if I'm wrong some of you young mothers, but aren't you supposed not even start introducing solid foods till four months or so and then it's only like rice cereal and bananas, gradually adding in other baby foods but not much in the way of adult foods till toddlerhood?

I feel bad for her. I am sure most mothers on the board would agree that the first time around they may have made a mistake or two. Paul and Heather complain about media intrusion-they should talk to Britney.Originally Posted by grace721

It's still fair irresponsible behavior. Babies can have all sorts of allergies, sometimes fatal and that is the reason you aren't supposed to give them adult foods, particularly processed foods loaded with chemicals, like ice cream.
You know, if this was the only thing she'd been doing that was wrong I wouldn't even comment on it but when you start racking up wrong deed after wrong deed it's time to look at the why.
Why does this trailer park skank keep talking, it hasn't helped her any. It just reinforces the fact that she literally knows nothing. Keep your mouth shut, your legs closed and take a parenting class already! I guess we should be happy he's not downing shots of Jagger or whiskey but I fear that will come soon enough. Is there no one anywhere in her life that can be a positive influence and help her out or does she fire all of them? The kid is going to be watching porn and eating Cheetos by the bag with ma and pa trash in no time.

Hmmmmm...sounds pretty suspect. Death by ice cream. Seems we would have heard about the dangers of such a common food. To assuage your anxiety I will go ahead and GOOGLE infant allergy deaths from ice cream and report back.Originally Posted by UndercoverGator
This is so ridiculous to report everything she does. How about we start reporting on all the crack and FAS babies born. Let's bring some attention and awareness to all the helpless babies - many of which go back to their crack-head parents! NOW That's an issue!
She fed her kid some ice cream, big deal. So many people think the books they read are 'the bible'. They are RECOMMENDATONS that's it. Some say no solids before 6 months, 1 year, etc... Parents will do what works for them.PERIOD! Adding some baby cereal to their bottle at night helps some kids sleep better through the night others will say NO WAY, "the book says 6 months, I have to follow the book". Some breastfeed for 3, 6, 9, 12 months. There is NO right or wrong way. It's all opinions. This whole issue can go round and round, what a dumb thing to write about.
Leave the woman alone!

I'm not a mother but I'd be worried about peanut allergies and things too if I was gonna feed my new born an ice cream. I used to babysit this girl who had an allergy and she used to get bad asthma attacks until her parents figured out it was the peanut in things like chocolate.Originally Posted by UndercoverGator

I would agree with this except she's spewing this garbage herself. _______________________________________________Originally Posted by happy8

I wouldn't consider giving a 6 month old baby some ice cream a wrong deed. It's not like she sat him down and fed him a gallon of ice cream. I remember when mine were that age giving them little tastes of ice cream, mashed potatoes...6 months is plenty old enough to be feeding them 'solid food' that is mashed and thin....if they can sit up and have control over their head most doctors will tell you it is ok...as far as allergies, he is just as likely to develop an allergy when he is one than now...if he is allergic to something he is just allergic to it. His age won't matter....Originally Posted by UndercoverGator
Got one better than that. My youngest daughter found a shell casing from a 22 caliber and put it in her mouth-bit down on it and got is stuck on her tooth. A trip to the dentist was needed to get it off....shit happens. Doesn't make you a bad mother. Now beating a child, starving a child, putting a child in a tub of hot water-THAT makes you an abusive/bad mother...Originally Posted by grace721

When I first saw this thread, I thought the ice cream had sun screen (SPF = sun proof factor) in it. That would be toxic! (haha pun unintentional)It took me a while to figure out it was Sean Preston Feders.

True. Giving a baby foods that are allergenic, like nuts (which most ice cream flavors can contain traces of since the same machines are used to process all the different products) and dairy can result in increased sensitivity to those things.Babies can have all sorts of allergies, sometimes fatal and that is the reason you aren't supposed to give them adult foods, particularly processed foods loaded with chemicals, like ice cream.
So, yeah, you could probably give a kid a taste of something here or there before you're *supposed* to. And they may be fine, or you could lose the toss of the dice and end up fostering a nasty food allergy.
Besides babies aren't supposed to start solids until they're six months +. Reason being their guts aren't developed enough yet (even if they've got teeth).
So how many not so smart things is she up to? Dropping her kid twice, riding with him 40 mph on her lap while in the front seat, strapping him in the wrong way....what else? Now she gives Lil' Cheeto ice cream? Sure, it's not the worst thing in the world but Pediatricians tell you over and over that milk products can be highly allergenic so they should be avoided for the first year (some will say maybe 9 months). If she's doing all of these things in the public eye, why kind of stupidity is going on behind closed doors?
